That date is a popular one for Mexican fighters seeing as how it is Cinco de Mayo weekend, and Canelo Alvarez usually locks it down for his big fights; however, he won\u2019t be competing anytime soon as he recovers from recent surgery (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/boxing\/392731\/title-less-canelo-alvarez-headed-to-surgery-out-until-mid-to-late-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">details here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Benavidez (31-0) is the current WBC and WBA Light Heavyweight champion and has 25 knockouts on his resume, taking out the likes of Caleb Plant and David Morrell along the way. The big knock on Benavidez is that he has yet to secure a noteworthy notch on his belt; however, it has not been for a lack of trying, as \u201cThe Mexican Monster\u201d has been adamant that Canelo has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2024\/5\/5\/24149342\/canelo-alvarez-wont-commit-to-fighting-david-benavidez-next-i-can-do-whatever-i-want\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ducking him for some time now<\/a>. And a win over Ramirez would be huge for his resume, making him champion in three separate weight classes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">As for Ramirez, he owns a record of 48-1 with 30 knockouts.
