It really seems like he’s going off track.

“Because not only are you failing to sell the event, I really believe Mick fights better as the bad guy.

“Same as I used to.

Michael Zerafa and Anthony Mundine pose during an open workout session at PCYC Lang Park on January 13, 2026 in Brisbane, Australia. And while ‘The Hornet’ remains one of boxing’s nicest men, he insists his old rival should be taking the opposite route.

“I reckon you should’ve kept the bad guy image,” said Horn, who also famously upset Manny Pacquiao in Brisbane nine years ago.

“I know it would’ve frustrated you with the public, because people don’t like you.

“But it would’ve made you oodles doing the Mundine strategy.”

In response, Zerafa replied of the bad guy: “Look, he’s not gone.

“But I feel like I perform a lot better when I’m Michael Zerafa …”

To which, Horn then went again, continuing: “How do we wake that guy up? I think that’s what everyone wants to know”.

Zerafa: “We have a little ritual in the back of the rooms that will get that guy out.

“Come fight night, the switch will be flicked.

“I’ve got the same feeling I had going in against you in the first fight. I’ve got that Horn feeling again.”

Like Mundine however, Horn suggested Zerafa deserved to be the favourite.

“I think Zerafa edges this one,” he said. “And surely, he has to be the favourite.”

Stoppage?

“I think this fight does get stopped,” he said. “So Zerafa stoppage”.

Australian boxers Jeff Horn (right) and Michael Zerafa embrace after their December, 2019 bout.Source: AAP

However, Horn also suggested the jury remains out on exactly how much his former rival has left in the tank, adding: “Zerafa, with the experience, normally wins this type of fight.

“But we know fighters can sometimes go too long, and Zerafa is getting on now. He’s younger than I am, but is getting on there in age terms.”

And as for all those suggestions this week about him failing when the spotlight is brightest?

“Look, he hasn’t done extremely well when it comes to the big bright lights,” Horn agreed, referencing losses against the likes of Erislandy Lara, Kell Brook and Peter Quillin.

“Peter on the domestic occasions, he’s risen up pretty well.

“And I’m sure that’s how he is seeing this – a stepping stone, not a bright light event.

NAS: “Ready to take this guy’s head off” | 00:15

“And I’m sure he doesn’t see why Nikita should be equal odds with him, or even a favourite.

“But it’s also something for him to say ‘Ok, I’m going to outbox this kid’.”

Quizzed on similarities between Nikita and his former world champion brother Tim, Horn continued: “Nikita is different, has a different style.

“He rushes a little too much.

“He’s a really strong guy, but doesn’t use that as smartly as Tim does.”

So as for his ceiling?

“Nikita definitely has some things to work on defensively,” Horn said.

“He’s definitely a hungry fighter.

“But he does make mistakes and if he makes them against these tougher opponents I think he’ll see what happens.”

Anthony Mundine says Michael Zerafa is making a terrible mistake by ditching his own old tag of Australia’s…

[447
172466,172469,2840,18614,172448,703,172464,172468,172455,172463,19608,49,48,172461,172457,172467,172456,43954,5220,172459,172454,24117,172450,116264,24118,172449,115631,172460,172465,24119,36375,18600,172453,172462,172451,10151,19603,1853,82,172452,105481,5515,172458
post-409628","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-boxing","tag-age-terms","tag-anthony-mundine","tag-australia","tag-australia-and-new-zealand","tag-australian-boxing-history","tag-boxing","tag-boxing-grudge","tag-boy-image","tag-boy-move","tag-boy-persona","tag-brisbane","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-chris-hyde","tag-come-fight-night","tag-domestic-wins","tag-experienced-boxing-names","tag-famous-fight-family","tag-getty-images-inc","tag-guy-image","tag-hyped-headliner","tag-jeff-fenech","tag-jeremy-latimore","tag-johnny-lewis","tag-michael-zerafa","tag-money-fight","tag-nice-guy","tag-nice-guy-attempt","tag-nice-guy-persona","tag-nick-walshaw","tag-nikita-tszyu","tag-oceania","tag-open-workout-session","tag-peter-quillin","tag-premiership-winner","tag-press-conference","tag-queensland","tag-rugby-league","tag-sports","tag-terrible-mistake","tag-trash-talk","tag-world-champions","tag-world-title-shot
["GET
