Homicide investigators have released the identity of a man who was discovered dying of gunshot wounds on a Surrey street Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Shortly after 12 p.m., the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to reports of a man lying near a property on 176 Street just north of Grandview Heights.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found the injured man. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) arrived shortly after and has since taken over the investigation.<\/p>\n
Hoping to progress its investigation Wednesday, IHIT identified the victim as 46-year-old Baljinder \u201cBinder\u201d Singh Garcha of Surrey.<\/p>\n
Garcha was a well-known member of the business community in Surrey and owned a wedding photography business, as well as a limousine service and banquet hall.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on initial investigative steps, investigators do not believe there is a connection to the BC Gang Conflict and are working diligently to understand the circumstances that led to the death of Mr. Garcha,\u201d said Media Relations Officer Sukhi Dhesi.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are asking anyone with information to please come forward and speak with investigators.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police also discovered a burning vehicle nearby on 40 Avenue near 192 Street Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Witnesses to suspicious behaviour or anyone with CCTV or dashcam video of the two areas between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. is asked to call investigators at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).<\/p>\n
