{"id":410671,"date":"2026-01-15T10:12:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T10:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/410671\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T10:12:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T10:12:08","slug":"victoria-mboko-upsets-keys-to-advance-to-adelaide-semifinals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/410671\/","title":{"rendered":"Victoria Mboko upsets Keys to advance to Adelaide semifinals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">ADELAIDE \u2014 Canada\u2019s Victoria Mboko has earned a spot in yet another semifinal. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 19-year-old tennis phenom from Toronto outlasted American Madison Keys for a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 quarterfinals win at the Adelaide International tennis tournament on Thursday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mboko, the tournament\u2019s eighth seed, broke Keys early, en route to winning the first set, but couldn\u2019t compete with the reigning Australian Open champion\u2019s big serve in the second.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Keys, seeded second at the WTA 500 event, fired eight aces across the one-hour 53-minute match, including six in the second set alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Canadian won 75 per cent of her first-serve points in the third set and converted the lone breakpoint available to her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She\u2019ll now face Kimberly Birrell of Australia in the semifinals. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mboko is set to make her debut at the Australian Open later this month after a breakout 2025 season on the WTA Tour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She was named the WTA Newcomer of the Year after winning the National Bank Open in Montreal and raising her ranking from No. 333 at the start of the season to No. 18 at the end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">This report by The Canadian Press was first published Jan. 15, 2026. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Canadian Press<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ADELAIDE \u2014 Canada\u2019s Victoria Mboko has earned a spot in yet another semifinal.
