Hilary Duff<\/a> knows that fans love her from her Disney days, but with her new music<\/a>, she’s ready to show how grown she really is.<\/p>\n

The 38-year-old singer and actress<\/a> dropped her latest single this week, “Roommates,” off an upcoming album set to drop in February. A follow-up to the wildly popular “Mature,”<\/a> the latest single teases a confessional tone for “luck\u2026 or something,” Duff’s<\/a> first album in over 10 years.<\/p>\n

The music video for “Roommates,” which was co-written by her husband, Mathew Koma,<\/a> features Duff<\/a> in a butter yellow dress with rain pouring through an apartment ceiling.<\/p>\n

“We love an easter egg,” she joked with Entertainment Tonight,<\/a> alluding to her music video for “Come Clean,” which also featured a rain scene. “I’ve had such a long career, it’s hard to not find the threads.”<\/p>\n

“Roommates” is a “really powerful song about about, kind of, feeling invisible in your relationship, and I think that it’s a theme a lot of people go through,” Duff told ET of the track.<\/p>\n

“Roommates is a song about when life is life-ing, babe,” Duff said in a release announcing the single. “It’s that ache for a wilder, freer time \u2013 before the days were swallowed by carpools, budget talks, grocery runs and letting old or new insecurities slip in. It’s the restless hum of wanting to find your way back \u2013 to your rhythm, to your person, to yourself.”<\/p>\n

The lyrics to the song focus on more adult themes than her previous music.<\/p>\n

“I can barely mention it without causing some ego trauma \/ But I know you’re sensing how I’m tryna give you hints,” she sings. “Physical affection goes a long way with me, I don’t wanna \/ Quietly resent you \/ I just want the easy fix.”<\/p>\n

In the chorus, she sings about getting sexual in the “back of the dive bar.”<\/p>\n

“Then sneak home late, wake up your roommates \/ I want the highlights, 10 out of 10 \/ The butterflies from holding your hand,” she sings, “Before we swept us under the bed \/ And we became practically roommates \/ I’m touching myself by the front door \/ But you don’t even look my way no more.”<\/p>\n

To celebrate her much-anticipated return to music, Duff is heading out on a small tour. The onetime “Lizzie McGuire” star will travel to intimate venues across the U.S. to treat fans to her newest music.<\/p>\n

The Small Rooms, Big Nerves tour, which is now sold out, includes shows at London’s historic O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, followed by stops in Toronto, New York City and Los Angeles. She will also mark the arrival of her new album with a pair of sold-out residencies in Las Vegas set for Feb. 13-15 and May 22-24.<\/p>\n

Duff was romantically linked to Aaron Carter, Jason Walsh and Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, who when she was 16 and he was 25 (and sparked questions\/comparisons after Duff released “Mature”). Duff later married Koma in 2019 after her split from her ex-husband, hockey player Mike Comrie. The pair share four children.<\/p>\n
