With\u00a01930\u2019s Dizzy Dishes entering the public domain as of this year, the original incarnation of Betty Boop joins the arsenal of iconic characters that can be twisted into a horror movie by enterprising indie filmmakers.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve previously reported that Boop<\/a> and Shiver Me Timbers 2<\/a> are on their way, and now Betty\u2019s Revenge is joining the fray.<\/p>\n

This one stands out thanks to the inspired casting of V\/H\/S icon Hannah Fierman as the batty Betty Boop. Check out our exclusive trailer and images below.<\/p>\n

The movie follows three college seniors who venture to the abandoned Dizzy Dishes cabaret club while researching its fiery past. They encounter the former owner, Betty \u2014 who claims to be half woman, half \u201csomething else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once the friends get their hands on Betty\u2019s journal of secrets, it\u2019s a race against time as she begins hunting them with the goal of leaving behind a story of trauma that can become the next great bedtime story.<\/p>\n

Emma Claire Dykes, Samuel J. Bennett, and Faith McKinstry star alongside Fierman.<\/p>\n

Brett Bentman \u2014 who\u2019s also helming a pair of Aladdin horror movies<\/a> \u2014 writes and directs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started talking about this story a long, long time ago, but as with any of these public domain pieces, there are rules that need to be followed,\u201d Bentman tells Bloody Disgusting. \u201cWe wanted to be true and accurate to the subject that was available \u2014 not just the one everyone associates with the classic cartoon, as we knew that was off limits. So we made Betty a tragic figure that has real motivation, not just your typical angry cartoon character.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bentman produces with Tiffany McDonald for B22 Films. Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n

Betty\u2019s Revenge is coming soon from ITN Distribution, who helped popularize the public domain exploitation trend with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
