A teen is in hospital with serious injuries following a stabbing on a bus outside a southwest Calgary high school.<\/p>\n
Emergency crews were called to the area of Henry Wise Wood High School, near Elbow Drive and 75 Avenue SW, around 2:05 p.m. for reports of an assault with a weapon.<\/p>\n
Police says a teenager was stabbed on a transit bus at a bus stop across the street from the school. Images from the scene show a city bus surrounded by police tape.<\/p>\n
A 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital and is in stable condition following surgery.<\/p>\n
A suspect fled the scene but was located shortly after and is now in custody, according to police. CPS Duty Insp. Darren Smith says the suspect is known to police.<\/p>\n
Smith says it is believed the victim and the suspect knew each other, but investigators are still looking into a motive. Police could not confirm if either are students at the school.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t actually know the relationship these two have to the school,\u201d says Smith. \u201cIt occurred on a bus that had stopped outside Henry Wise Wood. This doesn\u2019t appear to be a random attack in any way, this appears targeted.\u201d<\/p>\n
Henry Wise Wood was temporarily in lockdown following the incident, and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) tells CityNews the lockdown was lifted before 3 p.m. after officers went in the school to ensure the suspect was not inside.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that a number of students witnessed this event,\u201d reads a CBE statement. \u201cThis may affect individuals in different ways, and it is important to seek support when needed.\u201d<\/p>\n
The board says supports will be available for students at the school on Monday.<\/p>\n
