Nearly a decade after first making his debut, former Wyoming Valley Conference football star Eugene Lewis has made a name for himself as one of the Canadian Football League\u2019s most reliable wide receivers.<\/p>\n

The Ottawa Redblacks brought Lewis into the fold this past year, and have now extended his contract after a 1,000-yard season.<\/p>\n

It was announced by the league and the Ottawa franchise<\/a> on Thursday that the Redblacks would be extending Lewis\u2019 contract through the 2027 season.<\/p>\n

Lewis, who made his CFL debut in 2017 after a heralded high school career at Wyoming Valley West and collegiate stops at Penn State and Oklahoma, was set to become a free agent at the conclusion of the upcoming 2026 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeno is a player who I\u2019ve enjoyed watching from afar for a long time,\u201d Redblacks head coach and general manager Ryan Dinwiddie said in a release issued Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited for the opportunity to get to work with him and we\u2019re thrilled to have him in Ottawa through the 2027 season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lewis, 32, thrived in his first season in Ottawa last year, catching 75 passes for 1,012 yards and six touchdowns. For his efforts, Lewis was named to All-CFL for the East Division, his fifth divisional All-CFL honor.<\/p>\n

It was the fourth 1,000-yard season in Lewis\u2019s CFL career, accomplishing the feat twice with the Montreal Alouettes, once with the Edmonton Elks and once more last season in Ottawa.<\/p>\n

He joined the Alouettes in 2017 and spent five seasons there before signing with Edmonton in 2023, a deal that made him the CFL\u2019s highest-paid non-quarterback at the time.<\/a><\/p>\n

For his CFL career, Lewis has 7,273 receiving yards in 116 games played with 49 total touchdowns (47 receiving and two rushing).<\/p>\n

He was named the East Division MVP in 2022, his final season with the Alouettes, after racking up 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns.<\/p>\n
