Starfleet Academy<\/a> boldly went where no other Star Trek series has ever gone before according to Rotten Tomatoes. Sadly, though, I am forced to question the validity of the honor.<\/p>\n Plenty of titles from the beloved Star Trek franchise have scored well with the critics in the past, but the new streaming series from creator Gaia Violo and showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau is the first small-screen Trek to EVER be Certified Fresh on the RT Tomatometer<\/a> at 87 percent.<\/p>\n This historical moment, if it’s truly that, could certainly change if season 2 of Starfleet Academy doesn’t live up to expectations, just ask Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. And it was while revisiting the popular Trek sequel series on Rotten Tomatoes that I found it necessary to question the logic of the well-known review-aggregation site.<\/p>\n Here’s my argument: Strange New Worlds season 1 (98 percent<\/a>), season 2 (97 percent<\/a>) and season 3 (88 percent<\/a>) were ALL Certified Fresh separately by Rotten Tomatoes. However, while the show’s overall score balances out to 94 percent<\/a>, the series is NOT Certified Fresh by the website as a whole. <\/p>\n Come again? How is that possible? Shouldn’t the overall score of SNW be Certified Fresh if all three seasons are each Certified Fresh on their own? I feel like Peter Gibbons trying to explain that his Superman III scheme is “aggregate” in Office Space (1999), but I digress.
