{"id":418681,"date":"2026-01-19T04:37:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T04:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/418681\/"},"modified":"2026-01-19T04:37:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T04:37:10","slug":"dodgers-mookie-betts-reveals-when-he-will-retire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/418681\/","title":{"rendered":"Dodgers&#8217; Mookie Betts reveals when he will retire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mookie Betts doesn&#8217;t see his career extending beyond his current contract with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/los-angeles-dodgers\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"los-angeles-dodgers\" data-league=\"mlb\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/mookie-betts-to-retire-after-2032-season\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">During an appearance<\/a> on Roku&#8217;s &#8220;What Drives You with John Cena,\u201d Betts confirmed that he will retire following the 2032 MLB season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be 40, my little girl will be 14, my son will be 10,\u201d Betts said. \u201cMy parents were always there, and I want do that same thing for my kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four-time World Series champion will reach the end of the 12-year, $365-million contract he inked with the Dodgers in July 2020 following the 2032 campaign, when he will be 40 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Entering 2026, Betts appears to be on a Hall of Fame track, having eight all-star appearances, seven Silver Sluggers, six Gold Gloves and the 2018 American League MVP on his resume in 12 seasons.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his trophy case, Betts has 1,797 hits, 291 home runs, 196 stolen bases, and a .881 OPS, totalling 75.2 WAR, according to Baseball Reference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTowards the end, it\u2019s probably going to suck. For a while, it\u2019s kind of what has defined me,\u201d Betts said. \u201cThere\u2019s no way for me to substitute going into the locker room, being on a plane and developing relationships with so many people for 20 to 30 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Bo-Naylor-640x360.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Watch the World Baseball Classic on Sportsnet \"\/>Watch the World Baseball Classic on Sportsnet <\/p>\n<p>The World Baseball Classic is back for its sixth edition, running from March 5-17 in Miami, Houston, San Juan and Tokyo.
