Ford CEO Jim Farley has branded prior comments from Cadillac<\/a> counterpart Dan Towriss regarding a potential Formula 1<\/a> rivalry between the two brands as \u201claughable\u201d.<\/p>\n

General Motors has new interest in F1 in 2026, with the Cadillac brand making its debut, the team owned by the TWG Motorsports organisation, of which Towriss is CEO.<\/p>\n

American rival and fellow automotive giants Ford is making its long-awaited comeback as a powertrain partner with Red Bull, 21 years after it bowed out of the sport, having sold its Jaguar Racing team to the Milton Keynes-based squad<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Naturally, some might like to see the two names pitted together to create an exciting F1 rivalry, but that was rubbished by Towriss, who said late last year that it wasn\u2019t \u201ceven close,\u201d adding: \u201cOne is a marketing deal with\u00a0very minimal impact, and\u00a0GM is an equity owner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of Red Bull\u2019s 2026 livery launch in Detroit on Thursday, Farley was asked about Towriss\u2019 comments, and did not hold back in his assessment.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll I\u2019m going to say is it\u2019s laughable,\u201d Farley said.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s not even worth discussing. It doesn\u2019t merit a comment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"CadillacAs Red Bull launched its Ford-powered challenger in Detroit, Cadillac put its maiden F1 car through its paces in its first shakedown at Silverstone<\/p>\n

Given the different nature of their respective involvement in F1, Farley believes that the possibility of a rivalry is not yet reality.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot really [considering a rivalry], to be honest,\u201d he added. \u201cOur opportunity is getting up to speed with the PU.\u00a0But I think Red Bull is a completely different animal than a new team. And so our rivals are the McLarens and the Mercedes and the Ferraris and the whole paddock.<\/p>\n

\u201cRivalries like the Packers and the Bears are earned.\u00a0And they\u2019re earned through competition over years. And they\u2019re not paid for with money.\u00a0They\u2019re not invented from corporate strategies.\u00a0Rivalries are made through battle and take years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that\u2019s a legitimate rivalry. I think that\u2019s chalk and cheese, as the UK would say.\u00a0That\u2019s apples and oranges \u2013 whatever metaphor you want to use.\u00a0Great rivalries are earned in the arena.\u00a0And if you haven\u2019t been in the arena, how could you be a rival?\u201d<\/p>\n
