The actor Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/a> has criticised the attempts of the US president to annex Greenland, calling him \u201ca little man who got megalomania\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the European Film awards over the weekend, the actor \u2013 now frontrunner to win the supporting actor Oscar for his role in Sentimental Value \u2013 called the actions of Donald Trump<\/a> \u201cabsurd\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s absurd, isn\u2019t it?\u201d he told Artur Zaborski, of Polish outlet Interia. \u201cIt\u2019s a little man who got megalomania, and he\u2019s trying to take the world,\u201d said Skarsg\u00e5rd, who invoked Trump\u2019s recent overseeing of the removal from power of Venezuelan president Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe took Venezuela, suddenly, and that\u2019s for Chevron. He\u2019ll take Greenland<\/a> for minerals. He\u2019s a criminal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Skarsg\u00e5rd hails from Sweden; Sentimental Value director Joachim Trier is Danish and Norwegian. Greenland is self-governed but Denmark<\/a> runs its defence and foreign policy.<\/p>\n

Writing on Truth Social, Trump called for the \u201ccomplete and total purchase\u201d of Greenland and threatened EU nations who deploy troops in opposition with financial tariffs.<\/p>\n

Bj\u00f6rk, the Icelandic singer and \u2013 like Skarsg\u00e5rd \u2013 a veteran of Lars von Trier films, has also criticised the US president, as well as Denmark.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish all Greenlanders blessing in their fight for independence,\u201d she wrote on social media. \u201cIcelanders are extremely relieved that they managed to break from the Danish in 1944. We didn\u2019t lose our language (my children would be speaking Danish now), and I burst with sympathy for Greenlanders.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cColonialism has repeatedly given me horror chills up my back, and the chance that my fellow Greenlanders might go from one cruel coloniser to another is too brutal to even imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n
