{"id":42039,"date":"2025-08-02T14:51:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T14:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/42039\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T14:51:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T14:51:12","slug":"iga-swiatek-responds-when-asked-if-she-would-accept-winning-wimbledon-but-not-making-another-final-for-a-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/42039\/","title":{"rendered":"Iga Swiatek responds when asked if she would accept winning Wimbledon but not making another final for a year"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Iga Swiatek continues to impress on the WTA Tour as she searches for her maiden Canadian Open title.<\/p>\n<p>The Polish star hadn\u2019t been seen on tour since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/wimbledon-told-they-need-to-make-a-rule-change-to-the-womens-final-after-iga-swiateks-demolition-of-amanda-anisimova\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Swiatek won Wimbledon<\/a> in July, as she rested up before making her return in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>Winning her eighth match in a row, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Swiatek<\/a> took down China\u2019s Guo Hanyu in round two.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2227086652-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"Iga Swiatek celebrates her second-round win at the 2025 Canadian Open\" class=\"wp-image-117022\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Next up was a test against German youngster Eva Lys, a test Swiatek passed with flying colors, winning 6-2, 6-2, as she booked her place in the last 16 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During her post-match press conference, Swiatek was asked to reflect on the past 12 months of her career, as she answered an interesting hypothetical question.<\/p>\n<p>Iga Swiatek would \u2018for sure\u2019 have taken not winning a title for a year to win Wimbledon<\/p>\n<p>After winning her fourth <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">French Open<\/a> title in 2024, Swiatek embarked on a 12-month title drought, failing to reach another final until the 2025 Bad Homburg Open.<\/p>\n<p>Losing out in Bad Homburg, Swiatek won her next tournament, clinching the Wimbledon title, as she finally returned to winning ways.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether she would have taken not winning a title for a year in order to win <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wimbledon<\/a>, Swiatek provided an interesting response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, my God (laughing). That\u2019s a tough one,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, the first part, for sure, it\u2019s kind of sad, but yeah, I would totally give one year of not winning any title for Wimbledon, for sure. Like, it\u2019s a Slam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though I didn\u2019t play any finals, except Bad Homburg, I still feel like I had good tournaments. You know, there was always something missing, like in the semifinal or something, but still, with the year that I had, in the case I feel like I did great anyway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo for sure, I would take that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"597\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2227388476-1024x597.jpg\" alt=\"Iga Swiatek speaks to the media after her third-round win at the 2025 Canadian Open\" class=\"wp-image-117014\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>As Swiatek mentioned, she often fell during the latter stages of tournaments during her year-long title-less spell.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t as if the Pole\u2019s level dropped significantly;
