Britney Spears<\/a>\u00a0has said she \u201cadmires\u201d and \u201clooks up\u201d to\u00a0Madonna<\/a>\u00a0more than anybody else.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Toxic\u2019 star posted a vintage 2003 photograph of the Queen of Pop\u00a0under a warrior mask\u00a0on her Instagram on Sunday (January 18), and in the caption, she singled out Madonna\u2019s poise and independent attitude as traits that she particularly admires.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis picture is clearly an understanding, \u2018DO NOT PISS HER OFF\u2019,\u201d Spears wrote. \u201cI admire and look up to Madonna more than anyone\u2026wise, incredibly strong and has remained gentle and genius. Again\u2026DO NOT PISS HER OFF!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

Turning the lens on herself, Britney also said: \u201cThe beast within\u2026I prefer to call it the spiritual animal awakening.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0been a long time for me\u2026I know the wild ones more than anyone!!!\u00a0Yet,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0honestly all the same under our mask we secretly wear every\u00a0day!!! Vulnerability, fragility, insanity, real innocence\u2026but also confusion, depression, extreme hurt, anger\u2026stuck in our heads.\u201d<\/p>\n

Britney and Madonna have shared some famous historical moments, most notably their iconic kiss at the 2003\u00a0MTV VMAs<\/a>. During Madonna\u2019s performance on \u2018Like A Virgin\u2019, Madonna kissed Britney on the lips, and then did the same with Christina Aguilera<\/a>, and the clip became one of the most replayed moments in MTV history.<\/p>\n

The two also collaborated on Britney\u2019s 2003 single \u2018Me Against\u00a0The\u00a0Music, the lead single from her album \u2018In\u00a0The\u00a0Zone\u2019, and they appeared together on stage again in Los Angeles in 2008 on Madonna\u2019s \u2018Sticky & Sweet\u2019 tour.<\/p>\n

In 2021,\u00a0Madonna likened Spears\u2019 conservatorship to \u201cslavery\u201d<\/a>, urging people to \u201cgive this woman her life back\u201d,\u00a0while a year later,\u00a0Madonna said she would love to do a world tour with Spears<\/a>, so that they could re-enact the kiss. \u201cNot sure if she\u2019d be into it, but it would be really cool,\u201d Madge said.<\/p>\n

In other news,\u00a0Spears vowed last week to \u201cnever perform in the US again\u201d<\/a>\u00a0due to \u201cextremely sensitive reasons\u201d,\u00a0suggesting that her next public performance could take place in the UK. She has not toured since\u00a02018, and\u00a0postponed a Las Vegas residency in 2019 before\u00a0largely stepping\u00a0away from music.<\/p>\n
