Early-season schedules for Tadej Poga\u010dar, Jonas Vingegaard, Mathieu van der Poel and more"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"86dc669f-eda8-4294-a331-fd36ff413bf9\">The off-season is over, and the 2026 road season is about to begin as riders from around the world head to Australia for the opening race of the men&#8217;s WorldTour calendar, the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-down-under\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-down-under\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tour Down Under<\/a> (January 20-25).<\/p>\n<p>There are some major names on the start list of the 26th edition of the race, including Adam Yates, Matthew Brennan, Jay Vine, and Ben O&#8217;Connor, though the biggest stars of the men&#8217;s peloton won&#8217;t be racing down under.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"86dc669f-eda8-4294-a331-fd36ff413bf9-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Many of the sport&#8217;s superstars will instead be getting underway later on, in February or even March. We&#8217;ve put together a list of 10 superstars and compiled all their season start locations and dates in one place. Last year, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/tadej-pogacar\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/tadej-pogacar\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tadej Poga\u010dar<\/a> kicked off his campaign in February at the UAE Tour, where he won the race for a third time.<\/p>\n<p>This season, he won&#8217;t turn a pedal in anger before March, with <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/strade-bianche\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/strade-bianche\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Strade Bianche<\/a> hosting his season debut as it did in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Poga\u010dar won it again, his third win in five starts. On March 7, he&#8217;ll head to Siena as the favourite once again before turning his attention to the first four Monuments of the season \u2013 Milan-San Remo, the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, and Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-jonas-vingegaard\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Jonas Vingegaard<\/p>\n<p id=\"88a68da9-b0d5-4273-8c37-40482e2c3864\"><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/jonas-vingegaard\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/jonas-vingegaard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jonas Vingegaard<\/a> is switching up his season in 2026, taking on the Giro d&#8217;Italia for the first time as he aims to complete the Grand Tour set.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<p>Heading to Italy means a new lead-in to the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-de-france\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-de-france\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tour de France<\/a>, while his early season also gets a shake-up. In the past three years, Vingegaard has started his season on the Iberian Peninsula at O Gran Cami\u00f1o and the Volta ao Algarve, but this year, he&#8217;ll head to the UAE.<\/p>\n<p>Vingegaard will start his season at the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/uae-tour\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/uae-tour\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UAE Tour<\/a> (February 16-22), returning to the race for the first time since 2021, when he took a mountain stage victory on Jebel Jais.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-remco-evenepoel\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Remco Evenepoel<\/p>\n<p id=\"82a4eefa-79f2-42b9-803f-59a33c16ebde\">2026 marks a fresh new beginning for <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/remco-evenepoel\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/remco-evenepoel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Remco Evenepoel,<\/a> who has switched to Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe after seven years at Soudal-QuickStep.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>Despite the change, his main season goals remain the same, with Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge and the Tour de France his priorities. His season start location is slightly different, though.<\/p>\n<p>In previous years, Evenepoel has headed to the Volta ao Algarve, Vuelta a San Juan, and Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana to start his campaigns. He&#8217;s started at Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, and the Ename Samyn Classic in each of the past three seasons, though reportedly <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/pro-cycling\/teams-riders\/its-at-the-back-of-my-mind-fresh-from-benidorm-victory-mathieu-van-der-poel-eyes-possible-omloop-het-nieuwsblad-debut-in-2026\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/pro-cycling\/teams-riders\/its-at-the-back-of-my-mind-fresh-from-benidorm-victory-mathieu-van-der-poel-eyes-possible-omloop-het-nieuwsblad-debut-in-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he is considering starting at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-wout-van-aert\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Wout van Aert<\/p>\n<p id=\"f1bcd48a-172d-488c-b818-c36111e2a660\"><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/wout-van-aert\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/wout-van-aert\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wout van Aert<\/a> may currently be laid up and missing the latter part of the cyclo-cross season after fracturing his ankle in a racing crash earlier this month, but the injury won&#8217;t disrupt his spring goals.<\/p>\n<p>The Belgian will once again aim at Flanders and Roubaix, with Milan-San Remo also in his sights. He&#8217;ll kick off his road campaign in late February, however, on home roads at Opening Weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Barring any further injury setbacks, Van Aert will start his season at <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/omloop-het-nieuwsblad\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/omloop-het-nieuwsblad\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Omloop Het Nieuwsblad<\/a> on February 28, aiming to recapture the title he won in 2022, before heading to Strade Bianche and Milan-San Remo, races he has skipped the last few years.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-mads-pedersen\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Mads Pedersen<\/p>\n<p id=\"e664d26b-8f76-4179-9564-68887a41ad9d\">After five years in a row starting his road racing campaign in France at the \u00c9toile de Bess\u00e8ges, former world champion <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/mads-pedersen\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/mads-pedersen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mads Pedersen<\/a> is switching things up for 2026.<\/p>\n<p>This time around, the Dane will start his 10th season with Lidl-Trek in Spain, joining Evenepoel on the start line at the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/volta-a-la-comunitat-valenciana\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/volta-a-la-comunitat-valenciana\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana<\/a> (February 4-8).<\/p>\n<p>The stage race will be the first stop on the way to the spring Classics, where the three-time Gent-Wevelgem winner will be hoping he can hit the dazzling form he did in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-tom-pidcock\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Tom Pidcock<\/p>\n<p id=\"b6bc2f12-1e0c-4ef9-8b95-715c1b819d79\">British multi-disciplinary star <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/tom-pidcock\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/tom-pidcock\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Pidcock<\/a> will be hoping for a repeat of his winning start in 2025, where he made his debut for the team now known as Pinarello-Q36.5 with two stages and the overall at the AlUla Tour.<\/p>\n<p>This year, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/pro-cycling\/teams-riders\/tom-pidcock-unveils-spring-schedule-targeting-strade-bianche-milan-san-remo-and-liege-bastogne-liege\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/pro-cycling\/teams-riders\/tom-pidcock-unveils-spring-schedule-targeting-strade-bianche-milan-san-remo-and-liege-bastogne-liege\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he&#8217;ll start in Spain<\/a> at the two-stage Vuelta a Murcia (February 13-14) before heading to the gravel at the one-day Cl\u00e1sica Ja\u00e9n (February 16).<\/p>\n<p>After that, Pidcock will take on the Vuelta a Andaluc\u00eda (February 18-22), where he won a stage in 2025, before turning his attention to the spring Classics.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-top-sprinters\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Top sprinters<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:66.70%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/KfezJn9oL4o6aZtoVnUZCJ.jpg\" alt=\"Soudal Quick-Step team's Belgian rider Tim Merlier (C) sprints to the finish line to win ahead of Lidl - Trek team's Italian rider Jonathan Milan wearing the best sprinter's green jersey (L) placing second and Lotto team's Belgian rider Arnaud De Lie placing third (R) during the 9th stage of the 112th edition of the Tour de France cycling race, 174.1 km between Chinon and Chateauroux, central France, on July 13, 2025. The Italian has history at the race, having sprinted to a stage win in 2023.
