For the first time since taking a leave of absence from the Ottawa Senators<\/a> on Dec. 28, Linus Ullmark<\/a> has spoken about his situation.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old goaltender sat down with TSN\u2019s Claire Hanna in an interview that will appear in full later on Tuesday on TSN.ca and on TSN\u2019s YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ullmark addresses the circumstances of his leave, as well as his mental health in the conversation with Hanna.<\/p>\n

Ullmark also spoke about the erroneous rumours that spread on social media in the wake of his departure.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople wonder why hockey players, professional athletes, are not talking [publicly], why we\u2019re not showing any sort of emotions, why mental health in men and in women [is] a stigma,\u201d Ullmark tells Hanna in a clip released earlier Tuesday through TSN\u2019s social media channels. \u201cIt took [people online] less than 24 hours from my [leave of absence] to try to find reasons to why I\u2019m gone, saying that I\u2019m a homewrecker, a person that no one likes on the team and I can\u2019t defend myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ullmark, who is not active on social media, says that he didn\u2019t learn of the rumours firsthand.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike I didn\u2019t know about this until days later,\u201d Ullmark said. \u201cAnd it sucks because I have a family. I have a wife, I have kids. I get sent text messages asking like, \u2018Hey, are you guys good?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, why?\u2019 And then they tell you about the rumours and you\u2019re like \u2018What the f— is wrong with people?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2023 Vezina Trophy winner as the league\u2019s top goaltender, Ullmark is in his 12th NHL season and second with the Senators.<\/p>\n

The Senators visit the Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n
