Canola alone employs over 200,000 people across Canada. It is a $44-billion industry,\u201d the premier said.<\/p>\n<p>Moe said he credits Prime Minister Mark Carney and the federal government, which he \u201chasn\u2019t done a lot of in the last decade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe engaged earnestly, with at all levels of the Chinese government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Regina Liberal MP Ralph Goodale who recently retired after serving 26 years in parliament told Global News he believes it was \u201cabsolutely essential\u201d for Carney to pivot towards a trade deal with China.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" ban on Canadian beef imports after an atypical case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy \u2014 known as BSE or mad cow disease \u2014 was found on an Alberta farm in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Carney <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11616295\/carney-landmark-china-deal-tariffs-quota\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">touted a renewed relationship with\u00a0China<\/a> and \u201cenormous progress\u201d on trade irritants as he announced a new deal with Beijing on electric vehicles and canola at the end of a high-profile trip to China.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Canada<br China<\/p>\n<p>Federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald said Tuesday China is moving quickly to import Canadian canola and beef after Ottawa\u2019s deal with Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>MacDonald told reporters in Ottawa a Chinese importer has ordered 60,000 metric tonnes of canola seed, and he\u2019s aware of a company shipping its first load of Canadian beef to China next week.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s expected be the first time China has purchased Canadian canola seed and beef since it imposed measures to block the products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s how quickly this whole process has taken place,\u201d MacDonald said. \u201cWhen the door opened, it opened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MacDonald made the comments while announcing Ottawa is beginning a round of consultations on a new agreement that will provide funding and programming to the agriculture sector in 2028 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s farmers and food processors contribute $150 billion, or 7 per cent, to the country\u2019s GDP each year, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Cattle Association welcomed the news of access to China being restored.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to see renewed access into China, one of the largest export markets for beef.
