(AP) \u2014 NASA\u2019s Suni Williams \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nasa-stuck-astronauts-spacex-boeing-419f98f239a25cfb54f970b8522dc1d2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:one of two astronauts stuck for months;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">one of two astronauts stuck for months<\/a> at the International Space Station \u2014 has retired.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The space agency announced the news Tuesday, saying her retirement took effect at the end of December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Williams&#8217; crewmate on Boeing\u2019s ill-fated capsule test flight, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/stuck-astronaut-nasa-butch-wilmore-67a704349a509608d1acbd913843257d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Butch Wilmore;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Butch Wilmore<\/a>, left NASA last summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The pair launched to the space station in 2024, the first people to fly Boeing\u2019s new Starliner crew capsule. Their mission should have lasted just a week, but stretched to more than nine months because of Starliner trouble. In the end, they caught a ride home last March with SpaceX.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/boeing-starliner-nasa-space-station-cd4981c2c10bc2ddb689fd4c2ef4f571\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Boeing&#039;s next Starliner mission;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Boeing&#8217;s next Starliner mission<\/a> will carry cargo \u2014 not people \u2014 to the space station. NASA wants to make sure all of the capsule&#8217;s thruster and other issues are solved before putting anyone on board. The trial run will take place later this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Williams, 60, a former Navy captain, spent more than 27 years at NASA, logging 608 days in space over three station missions.
