His photographic images and videos of Lake Superior\u2019s wild side can be seen on social media<\/p>\n
As a photographer who loves nature, the Sault\u2019s Dan Grisdale is naturally drawn to the lake.<\/p>\n
For the last eight years he has been especially passionate about capturing Lake Superior\u2019s high and stormy fall and winter waves in photos and on video.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did photography before that but one day we went for a ride to Wawa and you know how the lake can be. The waves were 28 feet high. That\u2019s the highest I\u2019ve ever seen it. I didn\u2019t have a camera with me that day but I thought \u2018I have to see this again.\u2019 I\u2019ve been chasing storms on the lake ever since,\u201d Grisdale told SooToday.<\/p>\n
Grisdale, with his wife Cassandra, regularly travels\u00a0in their camper van to the lake\u2019s shoreline\u00a0along Highway 17 North between the Sault and Wawa on photography and video trips.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe storms are my main thing. I don’t think about anything else when I\u2019m there. I’m at peace. When my wife and I are out there we just sit and watch and we look at each other and smile,\u201d Grisdale said.<\/p>\n
His photographic images and videos of Lake Superior\u2019s wild side can be seen on Facebook<\/a>, Instagram<\/a> and YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n Grisdale said he’s interested in sharing his work with others.<\/p>\n \u201cA lady from Toronto told me, \u2018I can’t see this where I live and I never would have been able to see this if it wasn\u2019t for you.\u2019 That inspired me to share my photography with other people who can\u2019t make it up here.\u201d<\/p>\n His photography and videos of the lake have recently drawn more viewers than usual.<\/p>\n \u201cThe last few months have been just insane. I think that a lot of people are interested in the waves because meteorologists were predicting 40-foot waves before Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n Under his business banner of 17 North Photography, his photographs, covering a wide range of subject matter, can be purchased through his website<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI do a lot of photography along the lake in the fall and winter. My wife takes all of her holidays in the fall so we can go stay up there.”<\/p>\n He strongly urges others to take extreme caution when going near Lake Superior, especially in wild weather.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s dangerous but I\u2019ve found a pretty safe place to go when I travel there,\u201d Grisdale said.<\/p>\n
