Despite being courted by teams for the first time in his baseball career, Bo Bichette<\/a> didn’t feel too much indecision when putting pen to paper to join the New York Mets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During his introductory press conference in New York on Wednesday, alongside Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns and Bichette’s representation, the former Blue Jay spoke about how excited he is to join the Queens-based team. <\/p>\n

“A lot of conversations with teams, several good conversations. But with a lot of prayer and conversation with my family and my agents and even some friends, came to the conclusion that it was very obvious that I wanted to be a Met,” Bichette said after donning his new jersey for the first time. <\/p>\n

According to prior reporting, Bichette had been courted by teams like the Philadelphia Phillies \u2014 the Mets’ division rival \u2014 the Boston Red Sox, and the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bichette, 27, had previously spent his entire professional career with the Blue Jays after being selected by the team in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. <\/p>\n

Over his seven years in MLB, he compiled a .294 career batting average with 111 home runs and 437 RBI while earning two all-star nods in 2021 and 2023. <\/p>\n

And though the Blue Jays advanced to the World Series for the first time in Bichette’s tenure this past season, the infielder is seeking that ability to contend on perhaps a more consistent basis.<\/p>\n

“Mr. Cohen (Steve Cohen, Mets owner) and David (Stearns) have put together an organization that is looking to win every single year, has an opportunity to win a World Series every single year, and a roster that backs that up,” Bichette said of his new team. “It’s very exciting to be a part of.”<\/p>\n

And while playing for a big-spending contender remained at the top of Bichette’s wishlist, the Orlando, Fla., native is also excited to be heading to the biggest city in North America, calling New York “one of the best cities in the world, maybe the best city in the world…<\/p>\n

“All of that is something I’ve always wanted to be a part of.
