When the Seattle Kraken<\/a> drafted Shane Wright fourth overall in 2022, it looked like they had their future superstar.<\/p>\n

But now, it looks like his time in Seattle might be ticking down. The Kraken are two points<\/a> out of a playoff spot, leaving many to wonder whether the team will buy at the NHL Trade Deadline rather than become a seller.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s episode of the DFO Rundown Insider Edition, Daily Faceoff\u2019s Irfaan Gaffar and The Fourth Period\u2019s David Pagnotta discussed the idea of Wright being shopped to bring in help this spring:<\/p>\n

Irfaan Gaffar: \u201cThe Seattle Kraken are always an interesting team. As you look at teams and identities and who they are and the type of game that they wanna play. But the big one for them is Shane Wright and the future of his status in Seattle. And my question to you is, is there a future for Shane Wright in Seattle?\u00a0\u201c<\/p>\n

David Pagnotta: \u201cGood question. What I can tell you is the Seattle Kraken are open to moving Shane Wright. And I think with what they\u2019ve been looking for previously, they\u2019ve been looking for a legitimate top six offensive threat, ideally somebody capable of playing on the top line. And the sense that I\u2019m getting is a willingness to move and package up Shane Wright in order to get that.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the same time, I don\u2019t get the sense that Shane Wright is overly thrilled with his usage lately. I think the last game he played was under 10 minutes. And he wants to have more responsibility. He wants to have more ice time. He has to earn that as well. It can\u2019t just be handed it to him. But there\u2019s a little bit of disappointment there with respect to his usage from his side of things, which is understandable. He wants to start taking next steps. But again, he\u2019s got to kind of earn that<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the same time, with Seattle looking to make a splash and whether that\u2019s now or ahead of the deadline or something that they resume the search for in the summer. Remember, this is a team that kicked the tires on Jordan Kyrou <\/a>around the draft last year in LA. That\u2019s the caliber of player that they\u2019re looking at. Whether they\u2019ve circled back with Kyrou or not, that\u2019s the type of player that they\u2019re looking for. And the sense that I\u2019ve gotten in talking to some other teams around the league, Shane Wright\u2019s name is starting to circulate. There is a willingness from Seattle to move him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t want to get rid of them by any stretch. This isn\u2019t that. But this is trying to find that fish that they can bring in and they\u2019ve got it. You\u2019ve got to give to get. And it sounds like Shane Wright could be part of that if they do go in that direction. But from all indications, talking to a few other teams, Shane Wright\u2019s name is out there. There\u2019s a willingness for Seattle to explore that and we\u2019ll see how that develops.\u201d<\/p>\n
