Bublik says he has no regrets for indulging his inner child in the past. He is who he is, and that\u2019s why he\u2019s able to process the vicissitudes of being a tennis nomad better than most these days. He has the perspective of seeing the good and bad of the grind from both sides of the spectrum.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking back, I would not change a thing,\u201d he said on Day 5 in Melbourne, after finishing off Marton Fucsovics in straight sets. \u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen to Alex Bublik in five years\u2019 time. Will I be locked in like now, or maybe even more, or maybe even hungrier? Or will I say, Guys, I don\u2019t want to come to some tournaments because I want to be home.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bublik says by taking his time and doing things his way, he has kept valuable parts of his being intact. He has often talked about the fact that he can\u2019t be a machine like the Sinners and Djokovic\u2019s of the world. He can only be Bublik. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo for me it is more of a natural way and learning from your mistakes,\u201d he said. \u201cI guess that\u2019s important to keep yourself full, you know, not break parts or give pieces to someone because someone told you that this is a good way you should do it, you know, squeeze your teeth, you go work, and then at the end it\u2019s nice if you succeed. What if you don\u2019t?\u201d<\/p>\n
But the winning \u2013 and he\u2019s done quite a bit of it since spring \u2013 appears to be contagious.<\/p>\n
\u201cI enjoy more winning than in the previous years,\u201d he said. \u201cFor me it\u2019s really, like, that\u2019s how I started to play, like probably from around Madrid, Rome, Turin last year. And I continue with that.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know when the things are working and think you have to change something. So for me it is more about keeping the consistency, keeping the rhythm, doing the things that are working now. As long as it\u2019s working, I\u2019ll try to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bublik, who recently became the first player from Kazakhstan to crack the Top-10, says he has matured with age. He has won 36 of his last 45 matches on tour \u2013 he didn\u2019t need to say it, we can see that in his tennis, and hear it in his words.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith years to come I aged a bit, I matured a bit,\u201d he said. \u201cI think, as I said in the past, I\u2019m treating it more like a work. Like, you know, I came here to do things. I came here to win matches. I came here to do everything that is in my power\u2026 to get the win.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I\u2019m trying to fight. I\u2019m trying to get the balls back. This is the mentality I [caught], as I said, since last year. And I try to continue, because I mean I have no joy of coming here, taking the third set, losing, I don\u2019t know, in five, you know, yelling, breaking racquets. I don\u2019t feel need to do that.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo for me it\u2019s more about fighting.
