{"id":425167,"date":"2026-01-22T05:32:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T05:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/425167\/"},"modified":"2026-01-22T05:32:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T05:32:09","slug":"mclaren-confirms-controversial-papaya-rules-will-stay-for-2026-f1-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/425167\/","title":{"rendered":"McLaren confirms controversial papaya rules will stay for 2026 F1 season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/mclaren\/10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">McLaren<\/a> has confirmed that its much-discussed \u201cpapaya rules\u201d will remain in place for the 2026 Formula 1 season, with team principal Andrea Stella stressing that fairness and equality will continue to power how his drivers go racing.<\/p>\n<p>These rules, which defined how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/lando-norris\/289316\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lando Norris<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/oscar-piastri\/828689\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Oscar Piastri<\/a> would engage throughout 2025, became a recurring talking point of the year, especially as McLaren&#8217;s machinery was capable of fighting for wins the majority of race weekends, while fans questioned whether they were fixed or situational.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But while Stella was clear that nothing in Formula 1 is ever final, he confirmed that the philosophical core of McLaren\u2019s approach is settled.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the 2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosportawards.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Autosport Awards<\/a>, Stella rejected the idea that any concept can simply be \u201cput to rest&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, there\u2019s nothing in Formula 1 that you put to rest,\u201d he said. \u201cYou need to continuously evolve.
