It may be technology that helps save lives, but it is primarily the people behind the controls who are the heroes.<\/p>\n
One of the anonymous heroes is the unnamed police officer who piloted a drone that helped save a suspect from freezing in the extreme cold outdoors.<\/p>\n
During an incident, reported by Durham police yesterday, a suspect fled from officers in extreme cold, wearing clothing that put him at serious risk of exposure.<\/p>\n
With freezing temperatures, time was critical. The DRPS Drone Unit was deployed to search terrain that would have been extremely difficult and dangerous to cover on foot (see image above)<\/p>\n
The drone quickly located the individual, and the operator guided tactical and K9 officers directly to his location, police said.<\/p>\n
No other details were provided.<\/p>\n
The suspect was safely taken into custody and brought to an awaiting ambulance for life-saving medical attention. Training, teamwork and technology brought this incident to a safe conclusion as can be seen in the video below.<\/p>\n
