{"id":426786,"date":"2026-01-22T22:44:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T22:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/426786\/"},"modified":"2026-01-22T22:44:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T22:44:10","slug":"canadians-are-getting-increased-cpp-oas-payment-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/426786\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadians are getting increased CPP, OAS payment next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eligible Canadians can expect to get a boost in their first Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) payment next week.<\/p>\n<p>The CPP is a monthly, taxable government benefit that replaces part of eligible Canadians\u2019 income when they retire and is a payment they receive for the rest of their lives.<\/p>\n<p>To get money from the government, you must have made at least one valid contribution to the CPP and be at least 60 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Canadians will receive their full pension even if they\u2019re under 70 and still working; contributing to the \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/services\/benefits\/publicpensions\/cpp\/cpp-post-retirement.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">CPP post-retirement benefit<\/a> can increase their pension.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"CPP payment\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2180090\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/shutterstock_1831476568.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2180090\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ground Picture\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>The maximum monthly CPP payment you can receive at age 65 has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/services\/benefits\/publicpensions\/cpp\/amount.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">increased<\/a> from $1,433 to $1,507.65 starting January 2026.<\/p>\n<p>New beneficiaries aged 65 can get an average monthly CPP payment of $803.76 as of October 2025. That\u2019s an almost $100 decrease from the average monthly payment of $899.67 in October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Those who are eligible can expect to get their CPP payment on Wednesday, Jan. 28.<\/p>\n<p>Canadians aged 65 and older can also qualify for the OAS pension regardless of their work history.<\/p>\n<p>Those living in Canada can qualify for this benefit if they\u2019re 65 and older, a citizen or resident when their pension application is approved, and have resided in Canada for at least 10 years since age 18.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you\u2019re living outside Canada, you must meet the same age requirement, be a citizen or resident on the day before you left Canada, and have resided in Canada for 20 years since the age of 18.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly to the CPP, the OAS payment you can get from the government has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/services\/benefits\/publicpensions\/old-age-security\/benefit-amount.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">increased<\/a>.
