\u201cThe Daily Show\u201d<\/a> argued Wednesday night that Europe\u2019s leaders may have just revealed to Americans the secret to dealing with President Trump<\/a>. The lesson? \u201cJust tell that man no!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDaily Show\u201d host Josh Johnson touched on Trump\u2019s speech at the World Economic Forum<\/a> in Switzerland on Wednesday, during which the president demanded that the European Union, Denmark and NATO give America ownership of Greenland<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s the type of dude he is. If Trump wants something, he gets it,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cThat\u2019s why today, he flew to Davos to explain to Europe why America should own Greenland.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s huge, undeveloped, and in a strategic location,\u201d Johnson continued, following a brief clip of Trump\u2019s remarks. \u201cIt\u2019s like if your grandma had a Manhattan apartment she bought in 1950. Once she dies in it, you\u2019re gonna push her down the trash chute and live like a king.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cDaily Show\u201d host did, however, express his confusion over America\u2019s purported \u201cneed\u201d to own Greenland, given the existing treaty the U.S. has with Denmark to build as many military bases as it wants in the territory. Trump, for his part, has said that no one would psychologically want to defend something they have under a lease. It is a point that Johnson jokingly said he understood.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess I get what he means, because you do care less about things when they\u2019re not yours,\u201d Johnson conceded. \u201cLike, a parent will do anything to protect their kids, but if I\u2019m babysitting \u2026\u00a0You know what I mean? Johnson clowned Trump for repeatedly mixing up Iceland and Greenland during his speech in Davos. \u201cI\u2019m just glad we got rid of the last guy whose brain didn\u2019t work,\u201d Johnson quipped, adding, \u201cBut you know what? It doesn\u2019t matter what he said, because when the man wants something, he gets it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cDaily Show\u201d host reacted initially with excitement to follow-up reports yesterday that Trump had begun making steps toward a deal over control of Greenland. His sarcastic confidence in Trump dissolved, however, when he saw clips of the president first clarifying that he and the EU have the \u201cconcept of a deal\u201d in place and then responding with a prolonged \u201cuh\u201d when asked if said deal still involves the U.S. actually acquiring sole ownership of Greenland.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe what Europe did here is a lesson for the rest of us, because Trump barged into Davos like, \u2018I want to own Greenland,\u2019 and Europe just said no,\u201d Johnson observed. \u201cIn just six hours, they worked him down from owning Greenland to \u2018concept of a deal.\u2019 So maybe saying \u2018no\u2019 is something more of us in America might want to try?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead of complying in advance, college presidents, law firms, media outlets, whoever keeps giving Trump that tacky gold s\u2014t to put on his walls, just tell that man no!\u201d the \u201cDaily Show\u201d host concluded.<\/p>\n
