Richard Childress has been a NASCAR team owner since 1972. He collected a six NASCAR Cup Series championships, all with Dale Earnhardt.<\/p>\n
In court, text messages surfaced where Steve Phelps called Richard Childress a \u201credneck. The NASCAR team owner wasn\u2019t pleased with the messages about him between NASCAR executives.<\/p>\n
NASCAR President calls Richard Childress a redneck in latest court filings<\/a><\/p>\n Steve Phelps was the Commissioner of NASCAR. Now, post-lawsuit, he\u2019ll be stepping away from the company.<\/p>\n In November, Childress noted that he was considering legal action against NASCAR. The personal attacks against me. I\u2019m like an old elephant, you don\u2019t forget.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe race fans get me fired up. They keep me excited.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOne of them guys called me a redneck\u2026 I got a lot of race fans that are good old solid rednecks.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou can\u2019t forget what built the sport was the people back in the day standing up there with a beer on top of their car, cheering and screaming. And, you can\u2019t forget the young fans coming in, we gotta have them to keep the sport going.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI better not say what\u2019s on my mind.
