We haven\u2019t heard the last of Tenacious D, according to Kyle Gass in an interview with Rolling Stone<\/a>. Roughly two years ago, Gass joked about the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump<\/a> on stage (\u201cDon\u2019t miss Trump next time\u201d). Those were the \u201cfive one-syllable words that brought down the empire,\u201d says Gass. \u201cIt was terrible judgment, obviously,\u201d Gass continues. \u201cI\u2019ve felt terrible ever since, because it\u2019s such a responsibility to not screw up like that.\u201d After Gass\u2019 joke went viral, his bandmate Jack Black released a statement, canceled the tour, and the D has been quiet ever since. Meanwhile, Gass began to fear for his safety, claiming, \u201csomebody called my mom [\u2026] My poor 95-year-old mom. It hits close to home, and you want to be brave and courageous, but I\u2019m not a congressman. We\u2019re just entertainers.\u201d Nevertheless, Gass promises the band will be back, and \u201cit\u2019s gonna be bigger than Oasis.\u201d He echoes Black\u2019s comments made shortly after the hiatus<\/a>. \u201cThese things take time sometimes,\u201d Black said in 2024. \u201cWe\u2019ll be back when it feels right.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, Gass didn\u2019t seem to begrudge Black\u2019s decision. \u201cIt was hard to take responsibility for it, but it was my fuck up. When you\u2019re in it, it\u2019s hard to even think straight. It\u2019s just this thing flooding and coming at you. We had to take the break. And I got it. Jack has this magnificent career; I can\u2019t even count the franchises now,\u201d Gass says. \u201cSo as hard as it was, I just had to take the long ride home.\u201d The pair has since \u201chashed it out. And it was hard. It is like a marriage. You go through these ups and downs, and try to understand your partner.\u201d As for when the D will get back to playing tributes to the greatest song in the world, that\u2019s still unclear. \u201cWe will serve no D-wine before it\u2019s D-time,\u201d says Gass.
