\n\tLouis Tomlinson<\/a> appeared on The Tonight Show<\/a> to perform his recent single, \u201cImposter,\u201d and to chat with host Jimmy Fallon<\/a> about his new album, How Did I Get Here?, which is out today. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe former One Direction<\/a> member took the stage alongside his band to showcase the pop song, released earlier this week. Tomlinson built the mood with flashing colorful lights and artfully-arranged piles of cords. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe track was written by Tomlinson with Nico Rebscher\u00a0and Dave Gibson.\u00a0\u201cImposter\u00a0was written in the jungle in Costa Rica,\u201d the singer explained of the song in a statement. \u201cConceptually it leans into the idea of identity. It\u2019s probably the most melodic moment on the record, I\u2019m really excited for the world to finally hear it!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tTomlison and Fallon discussed the creation of How Did I Get Here? and the sense of \u201crelief\u201d the singer feels having now released it. \u201cI\u2019ve been sitting on it for a while now,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of anticipation, a lot of tension, but a lot of excitement too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer reflected on whether being part of One Direction prepared him to be a solo artist. \u201cEvery moment, every memory I have of One Direction is incredibly special, obviously,\u201d he said. \u201cBut that experience, it was relevant, but somewhat. Being in a band and doing things collectively and sharing the pressure it\u2019s a very different version of the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cThis is the record where I feel really comfortable with it. And I felt really comfortable making it. I really enjoyed the process. I\u2019m even enjoying the promo, which is a new thing for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTomlinson has been dropping Easter eggs for the album for a while. He told Fallon he tries to \u201cimagine what it\u2019s like to be a fan\u201d so he likes to create \u201cas much excitement around it\u201d as possible. He noted that the Easter eggs did confuse Taylor Swift<\/a>\u2018s fans. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think they were thinking it was somehow related to her album,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I got free promo for a couple days.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHow Did I Get Here? is Tomlinson\u2019s third solo album<\/a>. The singer will embark on an extensive world tour<\/a> in support of the LP, which will visit Europe and North America. The North American tour dates kick off on June 3 in Vancouver and continue through July 24, when the trek wraps in Miami.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI sum up it as \u2018The record I always deserved to make,\u201d Tomlinson said in a statement. \u201cMy bread and butter is my honesty.
