Foals<\/a> have shared a teaser for \u2018When The War Is Finally Done\u2019, their track from the upcoming \u2018Help(2)\u2019 album.<\/p>\n

The band have lent their first new material since 2022\u2019s \u2018Life Is Yours<\/a>\u2018 to the new collaborative album inspired by the landmark 1995 \u2018HELP\u2019 record for War Child, which comes out on March 6 (pre-order here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Produced and stewarded by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys,\u00a0Gorillaz<\/a>,\u00a0Florence + The Machine<\/a>,\u00a0Blur<\/a>,\u00a0Pet Shop Boys)\u00a0<\/a>\u2018HELP(2)\u2019 was recorded through \u201ca close collaboration with Abbey Road Studios\u201d mostly during one week in November 2025.<\/p>\n

So far, the album has been previewed by one track \u2013 \u2018Opening Night\u2019 by Arctic Monkeys<\/a>, which also marks their first new song in four years.<\/p>\n

Now, Foals have given some insight into their contribution to the LP. Taking to Instagram yesterday (Thursday January 22), frontman Yannis Philippakis<\/a> shared that the track was written in 2019 when he was \u201creading a lot of \u2018The Trench Poets\u2019, especially Wilfred Owen and Rupert Brooke.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe song is sung from the afterlife; a young soldier sent to war and expected to endure the unendurable,\u201d he continued. \u201cWatching the world return to normalcy from above after the shelling stops. A train runs tentatively, an appointment kept, a day spent alive by others. What was the cost?\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say: \u201cThrough the lens of current world events it feels as if the song has been in waiting for this moment to be released.\u201d<\/p>\n

The post also featured a preview of the song in the form of a black-and-white video of a cellist and a violinist playing on the track, which seems to feature a euphoric, moving instrumental. Check it out below.<\/p>\n

Rumours of the song and album started to circulate online earlier this month<\/a>\u00a0when War Child Records teased a new project with \u201ca group of artists who are working on something important\u201d \u2013 with Arctic Monkeys,\u00a0Damon Albarn<\/a>,\u00a0English Teacher<\/a>,\u00a0Young Fathers,\u00a0<\/a>Fontaines D.C.<\/a>\u00a0and producer\u00a0James Ford<\/a>\u00a0among those following their Instagram page and sharing the news.<\/p>\n

It was then\u00a0confirmed that a new song from Alex Turner and co would be the first to arrive<\/a>\u00a0from the album.<\/p>\n

Alongside\u00a0Alex Turner<\/a>\u00a0and co\u2019s first material since 2022\u2019s \u2018The Car<\/a>\u2018, the album also features\u00a0Anna Calvi<\/a>,\u00a0Arlo Parks<\/a>,\u00a0Arooj Aftab<\/a>,\u00a0Bat For Lashes<\/a>,\u00a0Beabadoobee<\/a>,\u00a0Beck<\/a>,\u00a0Portishead<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0Beth Gibbons<\/a>,\u00a0Big Thief<\/a>,\u00a0Black Country, New Road<\/a>,\u00a0Cameron Winter<\/a>, Blur\u2019s Damon Albarn and\u00a0Graham Coxon<\/a>,\u00a0Depeche Mode<\/a>,\u00a0Dove Ellis<\/a>,\u00a0Wolf Alice<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0Ellie Rowsell<\/a>, English Teacher,\u00a0Ezra Collective<\/a>,\u00a0Foals<\/a>, Fontaines D.C. and frontman\u00a0Grian Chatten<\/a>,\u00a0Greentea Peng<\/a>,\u00a0Kae Tempest<\/a>,\u00a0King Krule<\/a>,\u00a0Nil\u00fcfer Yanya<\/a>,\u00a0Olivia Rodrigo<\/a>,\u00a0Pulp<\/a>,\u00a0Sampha<\/a>,\u00a0The Last Dinner Party<\/a>,\u00a0Wet Leg,\u00a0<\/a>The Smiths<\/a>\u2018 icon\u00a0Johnny Marr<\/a>\u00a0and Young Fathers.<\/p>\n

The record follows more than 30 years from the original and legendary Brian Eno-led 1995 \u2018Help\u2019 album that featured\u00a0Oasis<\/a>,\u00a0Blur<\/a>,\u00a0Radiohead<\/a>,\u00a0Orbital<\/a>,\u00a0Portishead<\/a>,\u00a0Massive Attack<\/a>,\u00a0Suede<\/a>,\u00a0Sin\u00e9ad O\u2019Connor<\/a>,\u00a0Manic Street Preachers<\/a>,\u00a0The Boo Radleys<\/a>\u00a0and more.<\/p>\n

That album raised over \u00a31.25million and sold over 700,000 copies, and was followed by other charity records including 2002\u2019s \u20181 Love\u2019, 2003\u2019s \u2018Hope\u2019, 2005\u2019s \u2018Help!: A Day in the Life\u2019 and 2009\u2019s \u2018War Child Presents Heroes\u2019. The charity works to protect, educate, and support the mental health of children affected by war \u2013 and comes at a time of conflicts in Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, Syria and beyond.<\/p>\n

The original \u2018Help\u2019 charity album was\u00a0reissued and made available on streaming platforms in 2020 to celebrate its 25th anniversary<\/a>. In October last year, it was then\u00a0reissued again, this time as a limited, numbered 7\u201d single boxed set in celebration of it turning 30<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As well as releasing new music under War Child Records,\u00a0BRITs Week 2026 will also be returning this year<\/a>, and see big names play intimate gigs to help raise awareness and funds for the charity.<\/p>\n

In other news, the upcoming Foals album was named one of NME\u2018s most anticipated album releases of 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The band began teasing new material on social media at the start of this year<\/a>, sharing pictures from the studio, while Philippakis previously said that a new record was a point of conversation during a band holiday<\/a>\u00a0to Iceland.<\/p>\n

Back in 2024,\u00a0Philippakis told\u00a0NME\u00a0that the band\u2019s next album \u201ccould be the best Foals record yet\u201d<\/a>.\u00a0He said at the time\u00a0that the band \u201creally want to have some time at home and apart to individually get replenished and be inspired \u2013 not make one out of\u00a0a knee-jerk\u00a0sense of obligation.
