The New York Mets<\/a> had a productive week, bringing in plenty of stars after falling short to begin free agency.<\/p>\n

Although they lost the duo of Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso to free agency and traded away the duo of Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil, New York’s front office didn’t panic.<\/p>\n

They made solid mid-level signings by bringing in both Luke Weaver and Devin Williams from the New York Yankees<\/a> to bolster their bullpen.<\/p>\n

They traded for Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox<\/a>, signed Bo Bichette from the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> and traded for Freddy Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In doing so, the Mets made Major League Baseball history, bringing in so much talent in one offseason.<\/p>\n

According to<\/a> OptaStats, this is the first time since 1903 that a team has brought in a player who finished top-five in hits (Bichette) and a player who finished top-five in wins (Peralta) in the same offseason.<\/p>\n

The last team to do this was the New York Highlanders (who later became the Yankees). The two players who joined the team after their respective top-five seasons were Hall of Famers Willie Keeler and Jack Chesbro.<\/p>\n

Now, what seemed to be a poor offseason, has been shifted by strong acquisitions, improving New York’s chances in the National League East race. Although the Braves have also made acquisitions, the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> have lost more than they’ve gained, having added Adolis Garcia but subtracted Ranger Suarez to the Boston Red Sox<\/a>.<\/p>\n
