Luca Caruso-Moro<\/a>, CTVNews.ca journalist<\/p>\n In response to the U.S. president revoking Canada\u2019s invitation into the Gaza\u2019s Board of Peace, the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (PMO) says the country is committed to ending the conflict in Gaza and supports the intent of Trump\u2019s pursuit of peace for the enclave.<\/p>\n \u201cOur objective is clear: We are committed to a two-state solution, an independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with the State of Israel in peace and security, including a demilitarized Gaza, free of terror, and a prosperous Gaza with new economic development and rebuilt critical infrastructure,\u201d PMO Press Sec. Laura Scaffidi told CTV News in a statement.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have committed over $400 million in international assistance in response to the crisis in Palestine since October 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n Lynn Chaya,<\/a> CTVNews.ca journalist<\/p>\n Trump\u2019s NATO comments are \u2018false\u2019: Minister Miller<\/p>\n Culture Minister Marc Miller is dismissing U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s comments regarding NATO allies staying off the frontlines in Afghanistan. <\/p>\n Miller, who served as a reservist in the Canadian Armed Forces, told reporters Friday that Canadians made \u201cgreat sacrifices\u201d during the 13-year deployment in Afghanistan and everyone knows Trump\u2019s comments are \u201cfalse.\u201d<\/p>\n Some 158 members of the Canadian Armed Forces were killed in Afghanistan as part of the multilateral operation launched when the United States invoked NATO articles in response to the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n Miller made the comments in Quebec City on Friday, where the Liberals were wrapping up two days of cabinet meetings ahead of the return of Parliament on Monday.<\/p>\n The Canadian Press<\/p>\n Bessent on Alberta separatism<\/p>\n U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent commented Thursday on the separatist movement in Alberta \u2014 making him the highest-ranking member of the Trump administration to weigh in on the province\u2019s politics.<\/p>\n While appearing on the right-wing TV station Real America\u2019s Voice, Bessent claimed Canada won\u2019t let Alberta build a pipeline to the Pacific.<\/p>\n \u201cI think we should let them come down into the U.S. and Alberta\u2019s a natural partner for the U.S.,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have great resources. The Albertans are very independent people,\u201d Bessent said, adding there\u2019s a \u201crumour that they may have a referendum on whether they want to stay in Canada or not.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked if he knew something about it, Bessent said, \u201cPeople are talking. People want sovereignty. They want what the U.S. has got.\u201d<\/p>\n Some organizers of the Alberta independence movement have claimed they have had meetings with members of the Trump administration, although they have not disclosed any names. Read the full story here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Trump is facing backlash from Canadian veterans after suggesting NATO allies did little during the war in Afghanistan, comments veterans say ignore their painful sacrifices.<\/p>\n In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Trump said the United States had \u201cnever needed\u201d its NATO partners and characterized allied contributions in Afghanistan as minor, saying they \u201cstayed a little back, a little off the front lines.\u201d<\/p>\n His remarks didn\u2019t sit well with Canadian veterans who were part of the Afghan conflict, which represented the country\u2019s largest overseas deployment since the Second World War. More than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members served in the region between 2001 and 2014. In total, 158 Canadians were killed and thousands more were injured.<\/p>\n Retired corporal Bruce Moncur, who served in 2006 as part of Operation Medusa, said he is \u201cenraged\u201d by Trump\u2019s comments. \u201cWe were the frontline,\u201d he said Tuesday. \u201cWe took over Kandahar from the Americans because of their war in Iraq. We alleviated those forces so they could move to Iraq. Trump appointed himself as chairman.<\/p>\n The president invited Carney, who initially agreed in principle. In a post on Truth Social yesterday, Trump rescinded that invitation<\/a>.<\/p>\n The move comes after the prime minister made global headlines<\/a> earlier this week for a forceful speech<\/a> warning of a \u201crupture\u201d in the rules-based international order. He called on middle powers to collaborate and create a \u201cthird path with impact\u201d in the face of economic coercion from the world\u2019s superpowers.<\/p>\n In his post, Trump said Canada is no longer invited to joined \u201cthe most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time.\u201d<\/p>\n So far, 22 countries have accepted invitations<\/a>, including Egypt, the UAE and Qatar. The U.K., France and a handful of other countries refused.
