OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) – Owensboro Public School is warning parents to be watchful after an Apple AirTag was found inside a student\u2019s bag. <\/p>\n
Dr. Wendy Duvall, the school superintendent, shared a message about the incident with parents this week.<\/p>\n
She says that one of their students received a notification that they were being followed by an AirTag.<\/p>\n
OPS officials say the parents searched their bag and found the AirTag in a hidden compartment. <\/p>\n
According to school officials, this bag was given to the student at their free Amazon Donation Day.<\/p>\n
OPS assures that during these events, staff thoroughly goes through each of the delivered items and removes anything that may be dangerous or inappropriate before giving them to the students. <\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, this is a scary situation not only for the student and their family, but for all of our families,\u201d says Dr. Duvall in the letter. \u201cWe are sending this letter to you so that you can double check with your student on the item(s) they brought home to ensure nothing else like this has slipped through.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officials say this is the third year they\u2019ve done Amazon Donation Days and is the first time they\u2019ve had an issue like this. <\/p>\n
The remaining Amazon Donation Days that have been scheduled across the district have been canceled. <\/p>\n
OPS officials say law enforcement has been notified and they are looking into where the bag originated. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe sincerely apologize for the worry this may cause our families,\u201d says Dr. Duvall. \u201cPlease be sure to notify us in the unlikely event that something else like this is found in any of the items your child may have brought home from their Donation Day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Parents can contact Jared Revlett at the Central Office at 270-686-1000 if anything suspicious is found. <\/p>\n
