F1 may have scored four 2026 Oscars nominations<\/a>, but not everyone was supportive of the Academy\u2019s recognition of the film.<\/p>\n

The Brad Pitt-led racing drama secured nods for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects when the nominations were announced in January 2026. Though the fast-paced sports picture soared at the box office and became Apple\u2019s highest-grossing film, there was certainly confusion over why Wicked: For Good was completely shut out<\/a> from the list of nominees over F1.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t believe F1 got nominated but not wicked??????? Crazy work,\u201d one person wrote via X, while another echoed, \u201cWicked for good not being nominated for any oscar is insane (and the f1 movie getting multiple is beyond absurd).\u201d<\/p>\n

In F1<\/a>, Pitt portrays Sonny Hayes, a racer who comes out of retirement to mentor Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) and revamp the APXGP F1 team.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWith the recent announcement of the 2026 Oscar nominations, the awards season is officially underway. Thankfully for streaming fans, the vast majority of 2025\u2019s Academy Award nominees, from the record-breaking horror film Sinners to the Brad Pitt racing drama F1, are readily available to stream on Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu and more. Was \u2018Wicked: For Good\u2019 Snubbed Over \u2018F1\u2019?<\/p>\n

Wicked: For Good, the sequel to 2024\u2019s blockbuster Wicked, earned $524 million globally and boasted the star power of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. Grande seemed like a shoe-in for a Best Supporting Actress nomination while others were certain the sequel would nab nods for makeup and hairstyling and production design.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow did the f1 movie get four Oscar nominations including best picture?? I\u2019m in disbelief and wicked for good got ZERO???\u201d one fan questioned via X, while another wrote, \u201cHow the F*** does F1 get nominated and Wicked: For Good does not!? What money laundering scheme is this!?!?!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been more mad. f1?? over wicked: for good??? did they WATCH the movie???? @TheAcademy i am praying on your downfall,\u201d a third wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of you arguing about certain oscar nominations and whoever was snubbed but we should all come together and fight the common enemy which is the F1 film getting nominated at all,\u201d another person echoed.<\/p>\n

The Best Costume Design snub for Wicked: For Good was perhaps most shocking, as Paul Tazewell won the award for the first film in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cF1 made it to the best picture nominees, i\u2019m sure wicked for good could have made it to best costumes,\u201d another outraged fan commented.<\/p>\n

\n\u2018The Testament of Ann Lee\u2019 Fans Are Livid<\/p>\n

Another critically acclaimed film missing from the nominations was the historical musical drama The Testament of Ann Lee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Oscars are always embarrassing, but nominating F1 for best pic and not giving a single nom to ANN LEE is particularly embarrassing,\u201d one outraged X user wrote, to which another person replied, \u201cThey can\u2019t nominate a movie that nobody has seen.\u201d<\/p>\n

This prompted a third person to respond, \u201cPlenty of Academy members have seen it and they are the ones doing the nominations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another person questioned, \u201cF1? Are you kidding me? That over Anne Lee?\u201d<\/p>\n

Others argued Amanda Seyfried had quite a standout performance as Ann Lee and deserved some recognition.<\/p>\n

\u201cF1 best picture nom. no ann lee or amanda nom. searchlight when i get my hands on you,\u201d someone else wrote, while another person said, \u201cI like F1 quite a bit, but that Best Picture slot should have gone to TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE, THE LONG WALK, or NO OTHER CHOICE.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some Fans Showed Support for \u2018F1\u2019 After Oscar Noms<\/p>\n

Not everyone was shocked by the Academy showing F1 some love.<\/p>\n

\u201cF1 Movie brought millions of people to the cinema, it\u2019s visually so beautiful, the actors and producers worked so hard and the editing and music really drives you in,\u201d one supporter wrote via X. \u201cThat movie has done more for the industry than movies that won last year, so yeah it\u2019s well nominated #Oscars.\u201d<\/p>\n

A second person said, \u201cMy thoughts on 2025 Oscar nominations: I like what I\u2019m seeing here! I was very surprised to see Wicked for Good getting 0 nominations, I\u2019m was shocked to see Delroy Lindo got a Oscar Nom, happy to see Train Dreams and F1 get best picture. These are very great films this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another blockbuster missing from the Best Picture list was Avatar: Fire and Ash. (The James Cameron film did score nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Design.)<\/p>\n

\u201cF1 was a good movie and the visuals were stunning,\u201d another supporter pointed out. \u201cDeserved that spot over Avatar or Wicked for sure!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is typically at least one Best Picture nominee that doesn\u2019t have the most critical acclaim compared to others, even if its reviews are still good,\u201d another person said. \u201cI thought WICKED: FOR GOOD and\/or AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH would represent that for the longest time, but it turns out it was F1.\u201d<\/p>\n
