Police detained a worker at Intel\u2019s sprawling Hillsboro campus Saturday<\/a> morning who was reportedly having a mental health crisis and threatening others. <\/p>\n

Police placed a mental health hold on the individual, who was taken to a local hospital. The person does not face criminal charges, said Officer Zac Storm, a spokesperson for the Hillsboro Police Department.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt appears an employee was having a mental health crisis and was threatening other employees,\u201d Storm said in an email. No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not immediately clear if the worker was in fact an employee of Intel or a contractor, or if the person was on duty or visited the campus during off hours. It\u2019s also unclear what type of threats were made.<\/p>\n

Storm referred questions to Intel. A spokesperson for the company didn\u2019t answer specific questions but issued a statement.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred around 7:10 a.m. and the person was detained about 20 minutes later. Intel sent notices to employees warning them to stay away from the D1X fabrication facility on its Ronler Acres campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing is more important than the safety of our employees and our community,\u201d the company said in its statement. \u201cOut of an abundance of caution, Intel deployed our security threat response after an individual was reportedly attempting to harm themselves and others in the Ronler Acres RA4-D1X Link. There were no weapons involved. Hillsboro PD responded to the incident and we have resumed normal business operations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Intel last month eliminated 2,400 jobs in Oregon<\/a>, marking one of the largest layoffs in state history<\/a>.<\/p>\n
