Poland\u2019s booming economy has weakened the case for adopting the euro, the country\u2019s finance minister has said, adding that Warsaw now outperforms most Eurozone economies and has little reason to abandon its own currency.<\/p>\n

Andrzej Doma\u0144ski<\/a> told the Financial Times (FT) that Poland\u2019s economic growth shows it is better served by retaining the z\u0142oty for now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOur economy is now doing clearly better than most of those that have the euro,\u201d Doma\u0144ski said, adding: \u201cWe have more and more data, research and arguments to keep the Polish z\u0142oty.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

His remarks underline a clear shift in Warsaw\u2019s approach under Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who had previously backed euro adoption when he first took office in 2008.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That plan was later shelved after the euro debt crisis and amid strong opposition from Poland\u2019s right-wing and Euroskeptic Law and Justice party, which framed the z\u0142oty as a pillar of national sovereignty during its eight-year-long rule.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since Tusk returned to power in October 2023, the z\u0142oty has strengthened against the euro and opinion polls show a consistent majority of Poles remain opposed to giving up the national currency<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPublic opinion favors the z\u0142oty, but the main reasons we\u2019re not working on euro adoption right now are economic and not about Polish politics,\u201d Doma\u0144ski told the FT.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While neighboring Bulgaria became the Eurozone\u2019s 21st member this month, Doma\u0144ski said that instead of joining the single currency, Warsaw is seeking a seat at the G20<\/a>, a forum of the world\u2019s largest economies.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Poland has been invited by U.S. President Donald Trump to attend this year\u2019s G20 meeting in Miami as an observer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
