Canadians who take blood thinners could be eligible for a proposed prescription drug class-action settlement.<\/p>\n

Merchant Law Group LLP announced on Saturday that a proposed Canada-wide settlement has been reached in class actions that were filed in Saskatchewan and Qu\u00e9bec involving prescription drug Xarelto that Bayer Inc. and certain affiliates marketed in Canada.<\/p>\n

According to the law firm, the class action alleges that class members experienced bleeding-related injuries that were allegedly caused by the use of Xarelto, which is a blood thinner that treats or prevents blood clots.<\/p>\n

\u201cBayer denies the allegations, and they have not been proven in court,\u201d noted the law firm in a settlement notice.<\/p>\n

Are you eligible for this proposed settlement?<\/p>\n

According to the notice, you are a class member in the Saskatchewan class action if you are a Canadian resident, other than a resident of Qu\u00e9bec, who was prescribed and ingested Xarelto in Canada before Oct. 27, 2025.<\/p>\n

You could also be eligible if you have a relationship with an individual who fits the criteria, for which you could make a claim under provincial family compensation legislation.<\/p>\n

How much could you get?<\/p>\n

According to the law firm, if approved, a settlement fund of between $4.5 million and $5.25 million will be created based on the number of claims that are approved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fund will be used to compensate individuals who establish, with supporting documentation, that they experienced specified bleeding events within a specified period of time after using Xarelto, specified family members of such individuals, provincial and territorial governments who paid healthcare costs on their behalf, expenses to administer the settlement, an honorarium for the representative plaintiff, and legal fees and disbursements and applicable taxes,\u201d reads the notice.<\/p>\n

A court hearing will be held in Regina on April 1 at 2 p.m. CST to request approval of the settlement agreement by the Saskatchewan court.<\/p>\n

Canadians who are eligible and want to participate in the proposed settlement don\u2019t need to do anything at this time.<\/p>\n
