The quarterfinal match took place in\u00a0Melbourne on\u00a0January 27\u00a0and lasted just under an\u00a0hour.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0Suspilne Sport, Svitolina, <a href=\"https:\/\/suspilne.media\/sport\/1224202-elina-svitolina-rozgromila-koko-goff-i-vperse-v-kareri-vijsla-u-pivfinal-australian-open\/\" rel=\"external noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">seeded<\/a> 12th in\u00a0the tournament, defeated the American 6\u20131, 6\u20132 in\u00a0what was their fourth career meeting. Gauff had previously led their head-to-head record 2\u20131. <\/p>\n<p>Svitolina broke Gauff\u2019s serve three times in\u00a0the first set and twice more in\u00a0the second, taking control early and maintaining pressure throughout. She recorded four aces and made 16\u00a0unforced errors, while Gauff struggled with 23\u00a0unforced errors during the match. Sabalenka, who competes under a\u00a0neutral flag due to\u00a0ongoing international restrictions, has won five of\u00a0their six previous encounters. Their upcoming match will be\u00a0the seventh between the two players.<\/p>\n<p>Svitolina\u2019s victory over Gauff follows an\u00a0earlier win in\u00a0the tournament against seventh-seeded Mirra Andreeva, also competing as\u00a0a\u00a0neutral athlete. That match marked her highest-ranked opponent of\u00a0the season until Gauff. She won the first set in\u00a0just 29\u00a0minutes, dropping only one game, and secured the second with a\u00a06\u20132 scoreline.
