Starting today, Gemini 3 is the default model powering AI Overviews. When the company debuted its new family of AI systems <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/googles-new-gemini-3-model-arrives-in-ai-mode-and-the-gemini-app-160054273.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:last November;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last November<\/a>, it first deployed Gemini 3 in AI Overviews through a router that was programmed to direct the most difficult questions to the new system. Now Google is making Gemini 3 the standard for all users globally. In practice, Gemini 3 should prove better at generating more credible and relevant summaries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As for that second upgrade, now you can jump into <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/ai-mode-adds-a-dedicated-search-chatbot-to-google-170016310.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:AI Mode;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI Mode<\/a> conversation directly from an AI Overview. Google first previewed this feature <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rmstein\/status\/1995572911093289055\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:late last year;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">late last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;In our testing, we\u2019ve found that people prefer an experience that flows naturally into a conversation \u2014 and that asking follow-up questions while keeping the context from AI Overviews makes Search more helpful,&#8221; said Robby Stein, vice president of product for Google Search. &#8220;It\u2019s one fluid experience with prominent links to continue exploring: a quick snapshot when you need it, and deeper conversation when you want it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If you&#8217;re using Google Search on a mobile device, you can jump directly into an AI Mode conversation from an AI Overview starting today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Google has begun rolling out two upgrades for Search.
