{"id":437186,"date":"2026-01-27T20:54:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T20:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/437186\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T20:54:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T20:54:07","slug":"guys-are-maybe-starting-to-realize-that-theyre-not-getting-everything-that-they-wanted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/437186\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Guys are maybe starting to realize that they\u2019re not getting everything that they wanted\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Ahead of Brooks Koepka\u2019s return to the PGA Tour at this weekend\u2019s Farmers Insurance Open, 2025 Masters champion Rory McIlroy says all might not be well at LIV Golf.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI think it says more about Brooks than anything else,\u201d McIlroy said after Monday night\u2019s TGL event when asked about Koepka\u2019s return. \u201cHe obviously is a very competitive person and wants to compete at the highest level. I think he made the decision that he thought competing at the highest level meant coming back to the PGA Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rory McIlroy after tonight&#8217;s TGL match: &#8220;You&#8217;ve seen others say this recently. Patrick Reed said it in Dubai last week. It seems like some of those guys are maybe starting to realize that they&#8217;re not getting everything that they wanted out of going over (to LIV), and that&#8217;s\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AnIogEqYtO\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/AnIogEqYtO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Cameron Jourdan (@Cam_Jourdan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cam_Jourdan\/status\/2015991230107418727?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 27, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">McIlroy also addressed remarks made after this past weekend\u2019s DP World Tour event by LIV member Patrick Reed. The Masters winner in 2018, Reed revealed that he does not have a contract with the breakaway tour for the 2026 season that begins on Feb. 5. While Reed says he intends to play for LIV this season, he revealed he had a Plan B.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIf I ended up not playing on LIV this year, obviously it would be one of those things that I would be out here playing more on [the DP World Tour] and trying to secure one of those spots in the Top 10, and allow myself to get back on the PGA Tour,\u201d Reed said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Since Reed did not qualify for the PGA\u2019s Returning Member Program that Koepka used for his return, the most viable pathway for his return to the PGA is through the DP World Tour where the top-10 finishers in 2026 with be offered memberships for 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">McIlroy says what Reed\u2019s situation demonstrates is that, perhaps, the bloom is off the rose for LIV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cYou\u2019ve seen others say this recently,\u201d McIlroy said. \u201cPatrick Reed said it in Dubai last week. It seems like some of those guys are maybe starting to realize that they\u2019re not getting everything that they wanted out of going over there, and that\u2019s obviously a great thing for the PGA Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Farmers Insurance Open tees off on Thursday from Torrey Pines in San Diego.
