A wounded black kite, believed to have migrated from Belgium, has been rescued by a farmer at Assin Breku in the Assin North District of the Central Region.<\/p>\n

According to multiple reports, the bird, suspected to have been shot while preying on local chickens, was identified through a metal ring linked to the Brussels Museum of Natural Sciences. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe bird, suspected to have been shot while preying on domestic chickens, was discovered in a weak state by 32-year-old farmer Ebenezer Lativi. Officials confirmed the bird\u2019s origin after finding a metal ring on its leg,\u201d an X post by CDR Africa on January 27, 2026, stated.<\/p>\n

The metal ring found on the bird bore the inscription; \u201cMuseum Science, 1000 Brussel,\u201d along with a unique identification code, H220252, linking the bird to the Brussels Museum of Natural Sciences.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sylvester Amakye-Nyarko, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Assin North, has instructed that the bird be properly cared for by local veterinary officers.<\/p>\n

The black-winged kite, also known as the black-shouldered kite, is predominantly found in open lands and semi-deserts across sub-Saharan Africa and tropical Asia, with some populations in southern Europe.<\/p>\n
