Google announced yet another AI subscription, dubbed \u2018AI Plus,\u2019 available in Canada and over 30 other countries starting Jan. 27.<\/p>\n

Google AI Plus is a lower-cost subscription that includes access to several of Google\u2019s AI features, along with 200GB of cloud storage. AI Plus will cost $10.99\/mo<\/a>, though for a limited time, you can get it for $5.49\/mo for your first two months.<\/p>\n

The AI Plus plan joins Google\u2019s existing AI Pro and AI Ultra plans, though aside from price and cloud storage amounts, there are few clear differences. AI Pro includes 2TB of cloud storage and costs $26.99\/mo, while AI Ultra includes 30TB at $339.99\/mo.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s plan comparison page<\/a> doesn\u2019t do much to clarify the differences. For example, it notes that AI Plus subscribers get \u201cmore\u201d access to Google\u2019s \u201cmost capable\u201d Gemini AI models, while AI Pro subscribers get \u201chigher\u201d access and AI Ultra subscribers get \u201chighest\u201d access. There\u2019s a lot of this throughout the comparison page, noting that AI Pro and Ultra plans get extra access to stuff without ever quantifying what that means.<\/p>\n

There are a few areas where Google is clear about the differences. For example, context windows \u2014 AI Plus only offers up to 128K tokens, while the other plans offer up to a million tokens. (Context windows can be thought of like a large language model\u2019s (LLM) working memory, according to IBM<\/a> \u2014 more tokens means you can give it longer inputs, allowing for more information in the output.)<\/p>\n

Another notable difference is the number of monthly credits for Google\u2019s Whisk tool<\/a>, which lets users generate AI images based on other images they upload. AI Plus only gets 200 credits for this, while AI Pro gets 1,000 and AI Ultra gets 25,000.<\/p>\n

For Google Search, AI Plus subscribers don\u2019t get access to the Gemini 3 Pro model. AI Plus also doesn\u2019t grant monthly Google Cloud credits like the other plans. Finally, the \u2018more benefits\u2019 section shows that AI Plus subscribers don\u2019t get any additional features, like premium video calling features in Google Meet or better appointment scheduling in Google Calendar.<\/p>\n

In other words, the AI Plus subscription includes mostly all the same stuff as the other AI subscriptions, except it\u2019s more limited and costs less. Which I guess is good if you wanted Google\u2019s AI features but didn\u2019t want to shell out $26.99\/mo for them (though I haven\u2019t seen any AI tools that justify spending\u00a0any\u00a0money on them yet).<\/p>\n

Additionally, Google says that people who subscribe to the existing Google One Premium 2TB plan will get access to all of the AI Plus subscription benefits in the coming days.<\/p>\n
