{"id":43824,"date":"2025-08-04T04:52:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T04:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/43824\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T04:52:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T04:52:08","slug":"charles-leclerc-explains-extremely-frustrating-loss-of-pace-in-hungary-after-losing-out-on-one-opportunity-to-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/43824\/","title":{"rendered":"Charles Leclerc explains \u2018extremely frustrating\u2019 loss of pace in Hungary after losing out on \u2018one opportunity to win\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Charles Leclerc has explained the problems behind his \u201cextremely frustrating\u201d drop-off in pace during the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the Monegasque \u2013 who had started from pole position \u2013 slipping backwards to fourth on a day where he had hoped to take a victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">The race had started off well for <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/drivers\/charles-leclerc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leclerc<\/a>, having held the lead before also managing to keep <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/teams\/mclaren\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McLaren<\/a>\u2019s <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/drivers\/oscar-piastri\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar Piastri<\/a> behind him during the first round of pit stops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">However, after <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/drivers\/lando-norris\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lando Norris<\/a> put himself ahead of both via an alternative strategy, Leclerc looked to be struggling in the latter stages of the race and was soon overtaken by Piastri for second place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">The <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/teams\/ferrari\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ferrari<\/a> driver then faced a challenge from <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/drivers\/george-russell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">George Russell<\/a> in a battle for third and, as well as losing another position to the <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/teams\/mercedes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mercedes<\/a> driver, found himself with a five-second time penalty for driving erratically during the battle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">After <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/article\/norris-holds-of-piastri-in-thrilling-battle-to-win-hungarian-grand-prix.3nguaFMU2JVNsT9QWopwzK\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">crossing the line in P4<\/a>, Leclerc cut a downbeat figure as he discussed what had happened to cause his lack of pace later on, with the issue turning out to be different to what the 27-year-old had initially thought.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cFrom around Lap 40 we had a problem with the chassis, so now I\u2019ve had more details about it,\u201d said Leclerc. \u201cIn the car obviously I had no idea what was going on. I mean I had an idea, but it was a wrong idea because I thought it was something that was in our control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cUnfortunately we had an issue on the chassis, so I don\u2019t have much to add on that. It\u2019s just extremely frustrating when you are fighting for a win and when we had the pace that we had at the beginning of the race, and we lose absolutely everything later on, it\u2019s very frustrating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">With the race bringing the first part of the season to a close, Leclerc was quizzed on what his mindset now is as the sport heads into its traditional summer break.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cVery disappointed,\u201d he conceded. \u201cI don\u2019t take any positives from this weekend when we ended the weekend like that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cWhen we have one opportunity in a year to win a race, we need to take it and today we didn\u2019t. Now we will analyse what are the reasons why we had this problem.
