The New York Yankees<\/a> offseason has been much less robust than it typically is. While Cody Bellinger is back, their other moves have been very minor ones.<\/p>\n

But adding depth is key in the offseason, and those small moves could turn into big additions during the regular season for the Yankees.<\/p>\n

According to Jack Curry of YES<\/a>, the Yankees have made another such trade, this time with the Colorado Rockies<\/a> for a 23-year-old righty who has a 97-MPH fastball and had a 7.06 ERA in 2025.<\/p>\n

“Yankees have acquired RHP Angel Chivilli from the Rockies for minor leaguer TJ Rumfield,” Curry reports.<\/p>\n

This addition from the Yankees isn’t a major one, but it’s still an odd decision. Trading Rumfield isn’t that odd, as the 25-year-old Triple-A slugger has 52 homers in the minors across 430 games since 2021.<\/p>\n

With the crowded roster, there wasn’t much of a chance that he would crack the Major Leagues. But, he was still a solid option in a pinch, and now, it headed to the Rockies.<\/p>\n

In return, the Yankees are getting Chivilli, a right-handed pitcher who is coming off a 7.06 ERA over 43 games with the Rockies last season.<\/p>\n

While he’s just 23 years old, and could be a nice bullpen piece with a good fastball, slider, and changeup, there are some concerning statistics with his game.<\/p>\n

That 7.06 ERA last year, and his 4.55 ERA in 2024, to go with a career 1.55 WHIP, doesn’t instill confidence that he will be a great option for the Yankees.<\/p>\n

In his minor league career, Chivilli has a 3.91 ERA, which included a 7.00 ERA in 10 outings in 2025 in Triple-A for the Rockies’ affiliate.<\/p>\n

The 2018 international free agent signing wasn’t great for the Rockies, but in a ballpark that’s not the worst in the league for pitchers, and on a contender, he might turn things around.<\/p>\n

It’s an interesting trade, and one that’s worth keeping an eye on in Spring Training and into the regular season. He has a low floor, but with his stuff, his ceiling could be very intriguing for the Yankees going forward.<\/p>\n
