Masvidal was, like many fans the world over, watching last weekend\u2019s UFC 324.<\/p>\n

If, by chance, you missed the card and its main attraction inside T-Mobile Arena<\/a> in Enterprise, NV, No. 4 contender Justin Gaethje<\/a> (27-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) bested No. 5 contender Paddy Pimblett (23-4 MMA, 7-1 UFC) by way of unanimous decision after 25 minutes of action. Gaethje took the UFC Interim Lightweight Championship in the process.<\/p>\n

While the UFC hasn\u2019t announced a concrete date for the UFC Lightweight Championship unification battle between now-interim titleholder Justin Gaethje and permanent champion Ilia Topuria<\/a> (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC), Jorge Masvidal has already offered a take on the eventual showdown. This week, he took to the world of podcasts to deliver his opinion.<\/p>\n

Jorge Masvidal Thinks Pimblett Would Have Been Exposed vs. Topuria<\/p>\n

During the latest edition<\/a> of Masvidal\u2019s own\u00a0Death Row MMA\u00a0podcast, he discussed the contest from last weekend and how fortunate Paddy Pimblett is to have been spared from a fight against Ilia Topuria.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, it\u2019s a good thing that Paddy also didn\u2019t win,\u201d Jorge Masvidal began, \u201cbecause if he did, he was going to get torched by Ilia [Topuria.] During the fight on Saturday night, the takedown category told the story of the winner and loser of this this fight.<\/p>\n

In the five-round affair, Paddy Pimblett went 0-for-5 on takedown attempts. On the other side of the coin, Justin Gaethje successfully converted on all three of his efforts to bring Paddy Pimblett to the mat.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Jorge Masvidal Predicts Even Tougher Test for Justin Gaethje<\/p>\n

While Justin Gaethje managed to neutralize Paddy Pimblett over the 25 minutes of action last Saturday night, the road is only expected to get more bumptious for the interim champion when he and Ilia Topuria eventually do face off. Masvidal didn\u2019t hold back in his comments regarding Gaethje.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Gaethje just retires and rides off into the sunset, because he [doesn\u2019t] want to see Ilia,\u201d he said. \u201cI think both these guys are just, like, levels below Ilia and that fight really showed it all, on the wrestling, on the striking, on the defense, on the offense, I think Ilia is on a whole other planet when it comes to these guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Masvidal, Justin Gaethje may not have much of a chance to defeat Ilia Topuria.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully, they give him Justin Gaethje so [that] he can get another guy and do him like a lawn chair,\u201d Jorge Masvidal said. \u201cHe\u2019s going to fold him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Masvidal\u2019s Comments Continued<\/p>\n

From there, Masvidal mentioned how Ilia Topuria\u2019s skill level could yield to Justin Gaethje\u2019s downfall in the eventual contest between the two of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIlia\u2019s at another speed, another type of athlete,\u201d he mused, \u201cand Gaethje always had the same mistakes he\u2019s always made on the stand-up. He\u2019s still making them, when he\u2019s lunging, getting hit with those rights. Ilia does the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

At this point, Jorge Masvidal made a bold declaration as to how he sees the fight playing out on that particular Saturday night in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to cancel his career on the spot,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

While Jorge Masvidal ended his comments on Justin Gaethje\u2019s eventual bid to unify the UFC Lightweight Championship ending on a sour note with a Topuria stoppage inside the opening round, they\u2019re just that: comments.
