Pitt Meadows council honours hometown soccer pro\u2019s championships<\/p>\n

Pro athletes love to bring a trophy home, and Pitt Meadows council celebrated the success of a home grown soccer talent on Tuesday night, Jan. 27.<\/p>\n
Council welcomed Jaime Perrault of the professional Vancouver Rise FC to mark a milestone for women\u2019s sport.<\/p>\n
In November, the Rise captured the inaugural Northern Super League championship in Canada\u2019s new top-division professional women\u2019s soccer league.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an accomplishment which is truly historic,\u201d said Mayor Nicole MacDonald.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to celebrate as your home community.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to be able to be here,\u201d said Perrault. \u201cIt\u2019s been a dream of mine to be able to play pro, and especially where I grew up and lived my whole life \u2013 it\u2019s just been an amazing experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
MacDonald asked what \u201cmade the difference\u201d to her as an up-and-coming athlete.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, my friends and family. They are my biggest supports, they were there for me through the whole thing, and dedicated so much of their time,\u201d said the athlete.<\/p>\n
Coun. Alison Evans bought a Rise FC jersey, and Perrault signed it for her. The councillor thanked Perrault for returning to her home community and helping with kids.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for giving back to our community,\u201d said Evans. \u201cGrowing up there was no women\u2019s professional soccer, and you\u2019re setting this amazing example for our youth.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Rise signed Perrault last September as a 19-year-old who graduated from their own youth program (then called the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy), then played for a semi-professional Danish team.<\/p>\n
Perrault has represented Canada\u2019s under-17s and under-20s and played in both the 2022 CONCACAF Women\u2019s U-17 Championship and the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom starting out as a five-year-old West Coast Soccer player to becoming a league-winning champion, Jaime\u2019s journey is an inspiring reminder of what dedication, hard work and passion can achieve,\u201d said a statement from the city. \u201cOn behalf of council and the community, congratulations to Jaime and the entire Vancouver Rise team on this exceptional accomplishment.
