In a \u201cPeacock exclusive,\u201d Stephen Colbert<\/a> announced the date of the final Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a>. \ufeff\u201cMay 21, 2026,\u201d Colbert said on Late Night With Seth Meyers. \u201cMark your calendars.\u201d Meyers told Colbert he\u2019d take a night of his own show to be there for Colbert\u2019s final goodbye to the Ed Sullivan Theater.<\/p>\n

Colbert said that his last white whale of a dream guest, the one he really wants to book before May 21, is Pope Leo XIV. It makes sense. Leo is the Chicago Pope; Colbert is a Chicago Catholic. He even met the last Pope, organizing a group of comedians to link up with Papa Francis<\/a>. Reflecting on that trip, Meyers said he\u2019d given a firm \u201cNo way\u201d to Colbert when he was invitied. Colbert, on the other hand, took a helicopter from his show to JFK in order to make it Vatican City in time. When Meyers joked that Pope Francis would have been a dull talk show guest, Colbert took umbrage. \u201cThis is good that you did not meet the Pope,\u201d he said. \u201cThose Swiss guards would take that halberd and just take you down. In their big pantaloons and everything.\u201d Seriously, if you have not google image searched what the papal guards look like, you simply must. Goofy, but deadly.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
