There\u2019s a blanket of snow covering much of the country, and if you\u2019re anything like me, you\u2019re going a bit stir-crazy. I haven\u2019t played outdoor golf in some time, but as soon as the snow melts and courses open, I know where I\u2019m headed \u2014 temperatures be damned.<\/p>\n

Winter golf<\/a> isn\u2019t my favorite kind of golf, but it\u2019s better than no golf. Living in New York City, we are lucky to get a few days each winter that are \u201cwarm\u201d enough to play outside. After this stretch cooped up inside, I\u2019ve got my eyes on the weather report for the next opportunity to get out and play. So long as the mercury is above freezing, I\u2019m in. <\/p>\n

If you\u2019re like me and you are itching for a winter round, here are five tips for getting the most out of your cold-weather round.<\/p>\n

5 tips for winter golf<\/p>\n

1. Layer up<\/p>\n

It may be tempting to wear a bulky (and warm!) coat, but that will restrict your swing. Instead, opt for a series of insulating layers. Hoodies and vests are great for keeping you warm without hindering your swing.<\/p>\n

2. Hoof it<\/p>\n

One easy way to stay warm during the winter is by walking.<\/a> It\u2019ll keep you loose between shots and keep you from freezing in the wind chill caused by zooming around in a cart.<\/p>\n

3. Pack a hat<\/p>\n

Make sure you\u2019ve got a nice knit hat in your golf bag. You\u2019ll be amazed how much warmer you stay when you ditch the ball cap for a beanie.<\/p>\n

4. Keep your paws warm<\/p>\n

Your hands are your only connection to the club \u2014 so it\u2019s essential you keep them warm! Take a couple handwarmers for your pockets and keep your fingers stuffed in there between shots. It\u2019ll make all the difference on those feel shots around the greens.<\/p>\n

5. Tee it forward<\/p>\n

The ball won\u2019t go nearly as far in the cold, so don\u2019t be afraid to tee it up a box (or two!). Also, remember to take an extra club on most shots.<\/p>\n
