Still, the number of Americans taking statins continues to rise\u2014and now two nationwide recall announcements from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expose problems for them to beware of.<\/p>\n<p>The first, a January 20 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/ires\/?Event=98246\" target=\"_blank\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-label=\"recall\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-name=\"Shop Now\" data-module=\"content engagement\" data-position=\"embedded links\">recall<\/a> from pharmaceutical company AvKARE, involves 7,991 50-tablet cartons of 10-milligram Rosuvastatin tablets. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mayoclinic.org\/drugs-supplements\/rosuvastatin-oral-route\/description\/drg-20065889\" target=\"_blank\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-label=\"Mayo Clinic\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-name=\"Shop Now\" data-module=\"content engagement\" data-position=\"embedded links\">Mayo Clinic<\/a> explains this drug works to lower \u201cbad\u201d cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while also increasing \u201cgood\u201d cholesterol (HDL).\u00a0Crestor happens to be the brand name for one rosuvastatin product, though it is not involved in this recall and is made by AstraZeneca.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of specification for dissolution\u201d is the stated reason behind the Rosuvastatin recall, likely meaning the drugs did not properly dissolve during testing, which could impact how they are absorbed in the body.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/ires\/?Event=98227\" target=\"_blank\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-label=\"second recall\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-name=\"Shop Now\" data-module=\"content engagement\" data-position=\"embedded links\">second recall<\/a> affects 22,896 bottles of 1-gram Icosapent Ethyl capsules distributed by Zydus Pharmaceuticals (USA) Inc, with each bottle contains 120 capsules. <a href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/drugs\/19677-icosapent-ethyl-capsules\" target=\"_blank\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-label=\"Cleveland Clinic experts\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-name=\"Shop Now\" data-module=\"content engagement\" data-position=\"embedded links\">Cleveland Clinic experts<\/a> say Icosapent Ethyl capsules are prescribed to treat high triglyceride levels, though the drug may also be used to lower the risk of heart attack or stroke.<\/p>\n<p>Made public on January 22, the recalling reason behind the Icosapent Ethyl capsules describes a scenario where taking the drug could result in certain side effects. The report first described the drug as \u201csubpotent,\u201d indicating the capsules do not provide the promised strength. The FDA goes on to describe the problem as: \u201cDue oxidation caused by leakage of the contents of the Icosapent Ethyl 1g capsules.
