The\u00a0Edmonton\u00a0Elks have released Canadian quarterback Tre Ford and committed to Cody Fajardo under centre for the upcoming CFL season.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old Ford, from Niagara Falls, Ont., started the 2025 season as the Elks\u2019 starting quarterback but lost the job to Fajardo after a 1-4 start to the season.<\/p>\n
Fajardo, who was traded by the Alouettes to\u00a0Edmonton\u00a0in December 2024 after being displaced in Montreal by rising star Davis Alexander, went 6-7 for the remainder of the season and passed for 3,408 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions.<\/p>\n
Ford was originally selected by the club in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2022 CFL Draft.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In 60 career games with the Elks, Ford passed for 4,651 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions.<\/p>\n
The 33-year-old Fajardo, from Brea, Calif., is entering his 11th CFL season. He was named the MVP of the 2023 Grey Cup when he led Montreal to a 28-24 win over Winnipeg.<\/p>\n
The commitment to Fajardo comes a day after the Elks signed star receiver Austin Mack, who was a favourite target of Fajardo that season.<\/p>\n
